I think voodoo lady put the root beer in the cola machine in SMI

because its not just run of the mill root beer that kils ghosts its voodoo root beer I think she put it in the machine 4 him to use thats why she says she prepares it in CMI

    I just always assumed that it was part of the reason LeChuck was able to be resurrected is coz Guybrush used run-of-the-mill commercial grade root beer instead of special-made home-brewed enchanted (cursed?) voodoo root beer. :D

    The way I see it, it was always a case of miswording when someone said that LeChuck's spirit form had been destroyed. Obviously, that isn't the case, or the manner in which he had to be defeated in Tales would've made no sense (not to mention that if his spirit wasn't in his zombie body, then what the hell was animating him?). What I figure is that any root beer whatsoever will do the job, but that it doesn't destroy ghosts, it only sends them back to the Crossroads. For Guybrush this was no problem because the rifts were open, but LeChuck had no way back until Largo pulled him back.

    It seems that way. Though, I wonder what it feels like, if the root beer sends you back, but misses the feet, like that one at the dock and later running through the church in MI1?
