That must be what happened to her body. They put it near Gomez's food so that Morgan can use the locket and reposess her body twice a day to feed Gomez.
A better question is who fed Gomez while Morgan was out hunting Guybrush and being trapped in a Manatee for several days? Maybe she just left a bunch of food for Gomez.
Or maybe Gomez is actually Puss in Boots and can get his own food by slashing open bags of catfood with his sword.
Morgan's neighbour, Friedrich Noel, feeds Gomez and Tilly, Lily and Sally (her Goldfish) while she's out on adventures. In the likely event of her death, Friedrich has been instructed to continue doing so indefinitely. If you were true Monkey Island fans, you'd know this.
That explains why she can speak monkey - Gomez is a monkey! Right now he's stealing pocket change from old ladies to spend on banana sundaes.
It'd be a really badass goldfish. Every once and awhile it would stop swimming for a moment, taste the air, and say "I smell blood. I must feed."
The aquatic creature would then hop out of its bowl and hop along the land with astonishing speed. Long story short, it would wrestle a bear to the ground, a bear that would not see the next morning with all of its flesh intact. Most likely, all that will be left would be a bleached skeleton.
The goldfish would then hop back to its bowl, satiated, still filled with the adrenaline and thrill of the kill, its mouth filled with the taste of blood.
Really easy pet to have if you're rarely in the house.

I wish my gold fish was like that

Also handy for those annoying houseguests who outstay their welcome.
I wondered that too, but Morgan doesn't seem to recognize the dog when you show him to her...
Unless she's hiding something!
