Funny, this thread came up at the same time we've been having meetings discussing this very issue!

Good to know what you guys want with your DVD, we'll keep these in mind when we're putting it together. Thanks!

I'm all for Less Compressed Voices and Music! Having the artwork on the DVD would be cool to, especially that one of Flotsam Town that appeared in Nintendo Magazine.

    Also, Dominic Armato commentry :)

I'd like to see more dialogue between LeChuck and Guybrush in the final battle, because that scene loses a bit of it's gruesomeness once they start repeating themselves.

    Mock-up cover. Sexy isn't it?

So we're already in 2010 and just can't wait for that promised Tales of Monkey Island Collector's DVD.

I've been thinking about what would it have and probably some people are still holding their fingers back on that checkout button, so I compiled a little list of things I'd like to see on the upcoming DVD (having in mind low production costs and package size).
    • Steve Purcell's art as the cover
Just making sure it's going to be the official cover. That or a classic cover art like the previous MI games. Sorry Telltale but that first render of Guybrush still looks awful, the shading makes him look horribly weird.
    • Higher quality speech
Some lines of dialog would benefit from less compression.
    • Higher quality textures
Same here, there were times that the textures seemed way to pixelated and blurry.
    • Official Soundtrack (either digital or on a CD)
Please yes! I won't lie, I've used a tool to extract some music out of Tales of MI and I can't stop listening to them. So obviously, I'd love actual, official, longer versions of tunes like swordfight.ogg. ;)
    • Official Artwork (digital format)
Since asking for a artbook would be too much, I'd love to have high resolution artwork in the DVD. Please? Pretty please? Please pretty please with sugar on top?
    • And finally (and wishfully)... Steve Purcell's Poster
Because I'm a bit baffled that the unsigned posters costs nearly as much as two episodes together... No offense to Steve Purcell's work, it's a piece of art, but some people have to pay extra to have for such a small poster shipped. :( (my room's walls are filled with movie size posters)

    Newly added:
    • The official deck of tarot cards (added by Indrid Cold)

    • Commentaries, making of and behind the scenes videos (added by Irishmile)

    • Outtake reel (added by Scrawffler)

    • Every episode of I Wonder What Happens (added by pluizig)

So... could the Telltale team please stand up and give us a small peek at what people will get for buying or upgrading to the full season?

And what do you, Monkey Islanders, would like to see in your Collector's DVD? Have in mind that Telltale's probably not going to ship anything more than a DVD within a plastic case, but you can be extravagant if you wish. :P

Like all of these, plus Irishmile's map idea.

What about a Jolly Roger, depicting Murray. :p Also a semi-nude (fully nude is better of course) layout of Elaine and Morgan in the shallows on one of those tiny isolated islands.

A couple things I want, and since TTG is reading this. PLEASE. WITH CHERRIES AND ICE CREAM ON TOP.

    1. Make it to where Guybrush can actually SAY all of the dialogue options in Chapter 1.

    2. Add maps to the intro credits as you were originally planning to do. I know Jake said it was planned but you didn't have time, well, NOW YOU HAVE TIME. If you don't, Winslow will cry. And more of Will's art is always a good thing.
  • edited January 2010
Will made art, too? (Dang, dude does everything ...)
  • edited January 2010
A rubber chicken with a pully in the middle.
There's a zip wire off a cliff leading to a smaller island just begging to be used. If not, it'll probably be replaced with a bridge, and where's the fun in that?

But in all fairness, a deck of Tarot cards would be pretty awesome to have.
  • edited January 2010
Crap, not Will. I always get them mixed up. I'm thinking of Ryan aren't I.

Ohh, forgot about this, was quite annoying in Episode 1 how mostly response you clicked was totally different to what Guybrush says, at least it was fixed in later episodes.
  • edited January 2010
Well, it can be funny in like Curse of Monkey Island where it is:

"I've had some nephews over to play with Voodoo dolls. Would you like to see some pictures"
Guybrush answers (parafrazed, I can't remember the actual responses):
    "NOoooooooooooo"
"In all that is holy, NO"
    "Never. Ever. No"
"I can't think of anything worse than that. No"

all turning into "Maybe later"... but Launch didn't have such nice gags with the unspoken options though :(.
  • edited January 2010
There were a few in some of the episodes, but I can't remember them off hand of course.
  • edited January 2010
I second the request for a soundtrack. I'd like it included with the Collector's DVD if possible, but even if they have to be sold separately like with Sam and Max, I'd still appreciate it.
  • edited January 2010
I'd be more in favour of the Soundtrack being sold as separate.

I know it is impossible, but it would be lovely a copy of all 4 original games and Tales in a single treasure chest like box, with many small useless things Monkey Island related (like the pins)...

The only way such thing will feel complete is if Murray is in it :)

    I have a suggestion.

Glaring graphical bugs fixed, pretty please. Such as the pyrite parrot re-appearing after meltdown and doors being left behind when ships sail away.

Though freebies are nice too. =)

Haha, oh, oh here's another, A Murray paperweight. Haha.

Run from DVD/Minimal installation - I know most people here have massive hard drives, but from what I can tell, each of the Chapters requires a separate install (that's a lot of space in the end!). I hope that isn't the case with the DVD version, and would only require you to to have space for only the savegames (there would still be an option to install everything in your harddrive). It would be great if even netbooks can run it, too.
  • edited January 2010
Honestly everything I posted before were just suggestions, so to be honest, I don't care really because I got a new Monkey Island game.

I have a lot of things I hope for, but in the end whatever is there I'll be happy with. Sure I'd love to see maps in the intro, or usable dialogue options, but the game won't be any worse for me if it's not there.

    Or in MI2, when
LeChuck catches you and you get several witty responses to choose from, but the result is always (gulp).

All of them installed at once is only 1.3gb, that's not really much (a lot of netbooks come with 160gb HDDs afaik). Running from DVD would make them run pretty poorly imo.

I doubt they are going to change everything to make it run from DVD somehow, and you could run it from your netbook so long as it meets the system requirements. Again, they aren't going to remake the games so that lesser machines can run them.

My 2 pieces of eight. (sad, sad, sad...) :guybrush:

That's one drawback. Not only do you install five separate games, you will install most of what makes these five games five times. The engine, the music, the game models, everything that is re-used will have to be installed so many times.

    That should be changed...
  • edited January 2010
Sure it's not "efficient" but to redo probably quite a lot just so that people save a bit of HDD space? That's not efficient either. I don't see it happening.

I know it's a long shot, but it would be great if Telltale added something to understand the plot better.
I suppose that making the ending longer is not an viable option, but something in the extras could be a feasible solution... I don't know how exactly, an Elaine journal perhaps? ... or a pdf copy of the Keelhauler Gazzette? (Davey is dead, unfortunately).

I'm just dreaming, I guess, but think about it. An extra which filled the plot-holes would do the trick: everyone complaining about these problems (I know I'm not alone :p) would be happy. On the other hand, everyone who liked the ending as it is, would still have the original unmodified game. ;)
    Everyone's happy. :D

The whole series is full of plot holes. There isn't even any explanation as to where Guybrush comes from, it's just as it is, accept it. There's not much that "joins" the games together.

What about the ending of Monkey Island 2, it's totally inexplicable and comes out of nowhere, and really doesn't give the impression of a sequel down the line. I recently re played MI2 and was actually left feeling kind of disapointed at its inexplicable nature, but I wouldn't change anything.

Filling everything in with explanations would ruin it imo, if you must, just use your imagination (but please don't write any fanfic :p).

There are multiple threads on this topic, so I won't repeat my motivations here. :o
My suggestion wouldn't ruin anything to anyone who enjoyed the mysteries as they are. You say: "Just accept it", I say: "Just skip the explanation if you don't want it". ;)

and as Guybrush was hanging off the cliff timmy the monkey knocked him off after his victory over Ozzie and LeChuck..

Ehm, I fail to see how that can, in any way, be described as a "plot hole".
How many movies or games do really go back to the birth of a character?

Well it's more like total lack of plot then. I'm not saying it's a bad thing I actually like the absence of a background story, it gives things quite a different feel than if there is this whole long explanation/background story.

I didn't think of it before but the fact that there is not really much that leads on from one story to the next probably makes it more accesible to people that have not played the previous games. MI3 has some back story in the intro though, can't remember if 4 does off hand. Tales has a bit of an explanation as to what Guybrush has been doing for the past while at the beginning but it doesn't really touch on the rest of the series, other than some references throughout iirc.
  • edited January 2010
You could also add in an alternate ending to Chapter 5. Where if you don't choose to use the ring on the Crossroads but instead take the boat away from them it automatically goes to the Voodoo Lady cutscene with everyone assuming Guybrush is stranded there. Basically mentioning this suggestion due to that topic where some of the forumites were talking about how cool it would have been if Guybrush had been stranded at the end.
