Monkey island ripoff anyone?

So I was searching around for info on the Tales DVD and I came across this:http://videodetective.com/TitleDetails.aspx?publishedid=00860897 "The Secret of Pirate Island? What the heck?" were my first thoughts. Its some film or game or something by some company called PlayMobil.

There was a thread about this a bit back. It's a dumb movie for little kids, and you can actually buy it and see a trailer for it here. Playmobil mostly make toys that I'd pretty much call competitors to LEGO, and this is just based off their little toy line. When you're dealing with two horribly derivative things, you're going to find similarities.

Playmobil isn't that similar to Lego in reality. The style is similar, but the scale is suited to a younger age group, and more about playing than building.

the cannon fire in that trailer was awesome

"Some company called Playmobil"?! Wow, I always thought Playmobil was at least as famous as lego.
And I agree, playmobil is much more focusing on playing, and lego on building. It's still quite common to think about one when you hear the other, even though they're different.
(As a kid I always preferred playmobil. They had all the cool animals and accessories).

    ...I love me some Playmobil.

I think they're much bigger in Europe. I had a castle and a victorian house!

The was once a time when the entire back of our nearest Toys'R'us was dedicated to them. Now they have stack of shelves, and that it. Lgo (atleast the classic assorted random bricks) Seem to have dissapeared completely. In fact the only place i've seen those in the past four years was in legoland. *reminisces*

Also, i had a pirate ship too. And an airport:p

All I had was a Playmobil caravan, but I gave it to a charity shop many years ago. Good times though, I had a lot of fun with it!

That trailer does look very Monkey Island inspired, not only because it's got that typical pirate-y atmosphere. But also the title, the style of the music, and it even has voodoo and living skeletons.

BTW was that voodoo guy in the trailer called the "Voodoo Laddy"? Maybe I just heard it wrong and they said Voodoo Daddy or something. XD

They started getting into really modern stuff, like grocery stores and gas stations and such. I can understand the draw (making it more like normal dolls for instance) but it kind of bothered me that they put the rest by the wayside. It was a little bit classier than your run-of-the-mill doll playing, when they had fancy hats and clip-on vests, I felt classier just by playing. You can't even find the old Victorian stuff anymore, and I'm still missing my kitchen set, so I have to find some re-seller someday.

See. HOLY COW I HAVE A COLLECTOR'S ITEM.

You should creat a diorama, with your old ship at the bottom, and your new one sailing over the top.

    Twould be epic, my friend...epic.

Never bought any so I only know what I had as a kid, and it was all castles and cowboys and other old stuff like that... It was great, I had the most amazing adventures. It's kinda harder to imagine young me playing epic stories in a... gas station. Or grocery store. I don't know, doesn't sparkle my imagination as much I guess.

I used to have an awesome Lego pirate ship when I was little (mostly assembled by my dad), but it sat put together in its box in a spare room and eventually got dismantled a bit, and when I was old enough to put it together myself, I found that the mast was missing. Lego did a re-issue of the Black Seas Barracuda a couple years ago, but it was way too expensive.

I used to have a Lego castle (assembled by my mums friend), and i really loved it, and was devastated when someone knocked it off the table, causing significant damage. Looked pretty cool though, like modern day castle ruins. I wish i still had that...

Oh and, just found this on google

I remember when that came out, as well as their awesome robot kits. The LEGO brand is really doing a lot of awesome things to fit into the modern world, without compromising the integrity of the whole thing, unlock some "modernizations". It's all really cool stuff.

    Can't stop laughing now.

Also the Lego digital designer was kind of clunky when I messed with it. I couldn't get every piece in every color as I preferred, and I knew there was special pieces that I missed out on. Then again this was MAYBE 2 years ago when I tried it? I wanted to build some Lego-Bamboo and came out disappointed. Going to a Lego store is much more preferable, SOOOO many bins of blocks to be had...

Speaking of Lego, has anyone seen the Real Lego House that James May built? It's amazing! It was for the series "James May'sToy stories", which i don't think aired in the U.S.

He also made a plastercine garden (for the royal flower show), the worlds largest scalextric track, a giant Model plane and a real Meccano Bridge (crossing the river Mersey, Liverpool). (well, i say he, they were actually community-like projects)
