Can the Tales of Monkey Island series evolve into another series?

Something like Grim Fandango, starring Morgan LeFlay: Ghost Pirate Hunter!

    Spin-offs seem like a bad idea.

    The series needs to go in one unified direction. Hopefully continuing south from Sunshine and Rainbow Village and deeper into...I don't know, something darker and filled with craggy rock formations.
