"On Stranger Tides" - Tim Powers, 1988
I don't recall who it was that told me about this book, which allegedly has leant inspiration to the Monkey Island series as well as Disneys Pirates of the Caribbean.
But anyway, I read it, and I definitely recognise many themes. The book has voodoo, ghost pirates, zombie pirates, caribbean island ambience and lots and lots of rum (grog). It features Blackbeard, who resembles Lechuck, and a young woman in need of saving from several different pirates who want to use her in their sinister voodoo rituals.
A swashbuckling tale, but also rather well written and with some interesting characters. Hereby recommended to anyone who loves Monkey Island and other piratey tales.
