Launch of the Screaming Narwhal Needs a New Icon!

It has the garish icon with the beta 3D Guybrush looking, seriously, like he just hatched. The rest have awesome artwork and cool poses, and the icon for LotSN just looks out of place. Either Telltale needs to make a new one, or we can all put our own on here. Hmmm... But I don't know how to share the icon I made apart from a JPEG...

Seriously, it looks better when its smaller and an icon.

Sorry, but MS Paint isn't the kind of software for this.

That was unnecessarily harsh. I agree with him and I also think that the icon he made looks really good regardless of what software he made it in.

I didn't use MS Paint. I feel insulted.

Sure, if you don't mind harsh, jagged edges raping the smooth lines of an actually good artistic design effort.

You try doing it without a mouse. Outside of this, 2 things: 1. I love using the word "rape" for things it doesn't actually mean. 2. There are 3 users with eyes for avatars gracing this thread, out of 4 users who have posted. Therefore, 75% of people who play ToMI have eyes. Who knew?

Also, I don't know if this is what you meant, but I DO have the software to make it a Windows Icon. It's called Sib, and its not bad for a free program.

I think the Mac version already has an updated icon, featuring 2D art. I assume the PC version will get the same icon when they upload the Earl Boen-version. The DVD-version will have both the Mac version and an updated PC version with the advantages of the Mac version (Earl Boen's voice for LeChuck, an updated icon), so the download version should be updated before then/around that time.

If you look at what it looks like as an icon, you will see that the harsh, jagged lines are barely noticable.

Awesome! I wish I had a Mac, now... Just so I could steal the icon for windows! )I've heard the Mac version is less responsive than the PC version)

There is an official new icon, already deployed with the Mac version! PC users will get it when the Earl Boen-capable update comes out... whenever that happens :)

Well that just betrays an ignorance on your part because anti-aliasing is automatically carried out when icons are displayed at smaller sizes. What, did you think Windows would go out of its way to recreate the sharp edges as the size decreased? Or did you just assume that icons are supposed to be viewed fullscreen?

This post, along with the following one:

Are both dick moves. Both posters should be put in the dick corner where they can be taught proper social skills and given cone shaped hats with the letter "D" on them. D for dick. Obviously.

Actually, Rather Dashing wasn't being a dick. He was just saying that he saw some sharp edges on what was otherwise a great design idea. but spadge was being a dick. And what's with all the eyes?

Can't we just draw a dick on the hat?

    Would be more fun.

And get the message across more clearly.

I'm pretty sure I was being more of a dick but OK.

If I see a guy trying to hammer a nail with a screwrdiver, I'm going to tell him he shouldn't use a screwdriver. Dick move for saying MS Paint isn't the right software for this kind of work? Dick move for jumping on me for saying the truth.

    He didn't use MS Paint.

A better analogy would be if somebody proudly showed you a shelf they had put up and you said "You really shouldn't have hammered in the nails with a screwdriver". You're making an assumption that they used the wrong method to put up the shelves which implies that you think they did a bad job. It's basically a thinly vieled "fuck you", and we all know that thinly veiled "fuck you"s are more dickish than honest "fuck you"s.

So it wasn't the bad software, it was the lack of mouse. Fine, fine. Point still stands, use the proper tools to get proper results. I don't want to turn this into a freaking flame war.

Here's an actual ICO file of the OP's image if anyone wants it:

    http://www.mediafire.com/file/uljwzzunayg/ToMI_chapter1.ico

There was a weird smudge across GB's hair and face in the original. idk what that was from, but I tried to clean it up a bit, and I also made the white background on the edges transparent.

Link is broken. The smudge was from when i cut off part of his head and put it on the top layer to overlap the flag outline. But, you cant see it as an icon anyway, so i didn't bother trying to clean it up.

So...any Mac users want to take a screencap of the updated icon for us Windows users?
  • edited March 2010
check this vid out, you can see the icon here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_duIF6nh_mI

plus you can hear Earl Boen

Yeah Boen's performance is great on the Mac version, however, something I've noticed that no-one else seems to have noticed.

    -What? (After Talk to LeChuck)
    -As You Wish My Love.
-Arr, the evil of LeChuck is always evolving in new and terrifying ways, Sheepgood.

These three lines are still delivered by Adam Harrington instead. It's the same voice clips from the PC version. I really hope the reason for this was that Telltale needed to meet the Mac deadline so they simply overlooked these lines, but it was quite disappointing to have inconsistent voices in the same conversation. I really hope it gets fixed for the DVD.

Care to post the old PC LotSN icon? i'm curious.

I have only seen the Mac one, and it's indeed the artwork.
  • edited March 2010
    Can be viewed here, Wizpig.
  • edited March 2010
Oh yeah, the artwork one is better, chapter 4 already has a purple background by the way, so on the artwork one the background is green.

Is there a video for this anywhere? I'm interested to hear this.
  • edited March 2010
No there's no video, or at least I haven't seen one. I played it on my macbook and instantly realised that these lines were not newly recorded dialogue from Boen, but copied straight from the original version of TMI1.

It's not really THAT distracting (since you don't HAVE to speak to him for those lines) if you haven't played the original version, but if you've already got Harrington's inflections in your mind, it's really quite noticable.

EDIT: Here are all the videos I've found of his performance. In none does Guybrush talk to LeChuck though.

Yeah, I don't know why the ms paint comment received so much criticism, I too thought it was quite humourous.
