Sam & Max Season 3 goes international!

San Rafael, CA, 04/01/2010 After being discontent with the publishing politics by Atari, Telltale Games has engaged the help of various translators on this forum and will release their future games, from Sam & Max Season 3 on, in various languages simultaneously.

The localized versions will be purchaseable at no additional cost from the Telltale webshop. The first languages in which Sam & Max Season 3 will be published in are: English, French, Spanish, Russian, Suaheli, Pidgin English and Mandarin.

The translation bureau has even leaked some of the international logos for Season 3:

    Sorry - no Pig Latin this time. Probably in the next batch, together with Latin, Greek, Big Endian, Klingon and Na'vi.

    That's offensive. The proud Wookie language is known as Shyriiwook.

    Also, that would be:

    ...at least, according to some random internet translator. Someone more fluent in Shyriiwook would have to correct any translation errors.

    In Finnish:
    Sam & Max: Paholaisen teatteri.

    Could also be translated as "Paholaisen leikkimökki", but anyone who speaks Finnish knows how ludicrous that is :)

    In Norwegian:
    'Sam & Max: Djevelens Lekehus'

    I'd prefer the english version, though :P But of course, kids that don't speak english, could enjoy it anyway :)

    I checked Wikipedia, but the most likely "pidgin" dialect I could find was Ebonics. And I can't imagine Max saying "yo betta step or I gonna bust a cap, foo".

    Bah - if anything, it should have been "Des Teufels Spielhölle"...
    "Spielhölle" is a place for gambling (like a casino). A playhouse is actually a house where plays are perfomed, i.e. a theatre. However, "Schauspielhaus" would be too long and far too much into detail. Hence, "Spielhaus".

    The official German distributor will however most probably go with a title which doesn't have anything to do with the original, anyway. ;)

    Ebonics isn't a pidgin, it's a dialect. Some linguists think it's a creole, which is a grown up pidgin, but there's no consensus on that. I don't know who added it to the Wikipedia page on English pidgins, but it shouldn't be there.

    I don't think you could translate the title anyway. The differences are mostly pronunciation and grammar.

    "Sam en Max: Theater van de Duivel" sounds better than most English titles translated to Dutch.
