LeChucks Revenge SE Gets Creator Commentary

As if you weren't gonna buy it already, now we get to hear Ron Gilbert, Dave Grossman and Tim Schafer musing about MI2 in addition to getting to play the game with Dom Armato and Earl Boen. They had to peel me off the ceiling before I posted this

The upcoming release of a Monkey Island 2 special edition is special not for the revamped graphics, but for the inclusion of a commentary track featuring the original game's creators: Ron Gilbert, Tim Schafer, and Dave Grossman.

While it's not the first game to do so - Valve has been dropping them into games for a few years now - it's certainly the most appealing we've seen thus far, with Monkey Island's trio some of the smartest and funniest minds in the industry.

They'll be speaking about both their personal memories making the game and "behind-the-scenes information". The commentary will be accessible via a dedicated game mode when Monkey Island 2: Special Edition is released sometime in the summer.

Yeah, it was mentioned in the original press release. It's probably my most anticipated addition in MI2:SE.

    Awesome!

This is one thing that I can never do with movies: though I'll want to watch with commentary, most of the time I find I just want to re-watch the movie, so I shut off the commentary. I guess I'll just have to do an immediate re-play with commentary when I beat it the first time.
    I can't wait for this!

This is actually the only reason for me to buy this game.
The whole SE stuff, even the voices just don't do it for me.

You people should thank LucasArts instead of bashing them.

    You get:

*The original game for the first time now running on console and Windows.
    *Developer's Commentary
*Rerecorded Music and sound effects in stunning quality
*OPTIONAL: Voices for the characters for the original game or SE.
*Bloody Dominic Armato and Earl Boen!
    *OPTIONAL: Special Edition Graphics
*Actually listening to fans' suggestions. Fixing Guybrush's hair, the flippin' barbs.

And you guys whine and complain at graphics and voices they aren't forcing you to look at and listen to. Shame on you guys!

no one has said anything bad about it on this thread!

I'm talking about the majority of the posts about MI2SE in this forum.

    Who's bashing anything?
This thread contains nothing but praise.

I like Lucasarts embracing their old franchises again, I just think that the game is perfect the way it is. It's the pixels I fell in love with, and no voices or new graphics are gonna change that.
I do like the fact that they're making these classics available to mainstream gamers who didn't have 'm back then. And I fully endorse these Special Editions.
That's why the only thing that I'm really interested in is the audio commentary.

    Edit:
I'm talking about the majority of the posts about MI2SE in this forum.
The you posted in the wrong thread. ;)
I do agree, some people are nitpicking this game to death.

    I guess it isn't animated. :(
Only Ron is speaking and all their mouths are open.

I'm starting to think this isn't a real screenshot.

What made you think it was official?

What made you think it was official?

cos its on the MI blog I dont think its real mainly cos why would that be rons fav scene
  • edited April 2010
I think it may be accurately representative, but it's probably a mocked-up screenshot rather than a final one... I mean, the outlines are too good, I think, for it just to be some guy messing with us. I don't think someone would have gone to the trouble.

    On Fb
Craig Derrick: Couple things about the commentary: It's a toggle, so you can press a button whenever the commentary symbol pops up and hear the guys speak. You can do this over and over if you'd like. Also, the game screen will shrink within a frame when commentary is on so that no gameplay is obstructed (unlike this screenshot). And, lastly, the commentary will work during classic mode. END OF LINE

So what will happen if they reveal "the secret" in the commentary track?

It's also on an actual gaming website. That's an amazing set of caricatures if true.
