    OK. Gearbox bought Homeworld.

    .....whaaaaaaaaaaaaaatttt?

That just makes no dern sense. Like none. 0_o
(What wouiod they even do with it?)
Why? So they could re-release the existing games on Steam. They get monies, obviously, but they also get back on people's good side after the Duke Nukem Forever and Aliens fiascos.

That's the obvious answer. But the answer I prefer is that Space Hitler told them to do it.
Because the astral alignment would be perfect for Tacos.

Hopefully that's the final design. I'm not planning on changing it anymore.

If you guys want I could post the basic rules of what I have so far. Most of the rules are already set, I only need to add a few additional details.

Wait. Scooby Doo was in Twin Peaks?

He and the others went to THE Red Room in an alternate world between worlds and the midget showed up. It was also a very emotional episode. The show also takes a shitton of inspiration from Twin Peaks and Lynch in its base elements, such as the town it's set in.

Funny story. I worked with that guy on Picaroon. And by worked I mean did nothing to help and did more to stall the project than do anything worthwhile, to my regret. So I think he hates me.

Nonono, Warpy. Not "free beer to intelligent people". "Free beer for intelligent people"! As in, a good exchange, just hand them over the counter.

Lol. How did you stall it?
  • edited April 2013
Well, when you're supposed to be doing something and you're doing nothing, and people are expecting productivity from you.....

That does kind of stall things until they realize you're a lazy prick.

The two biggest things causing me to not do well were such:

I just kept doing shitty art
I was supposed to write, but I kept getting writer's block and then did nothing

They used one of my designs (an inventor), but Zyndicate had to polish it, and he basically ended up taking over for me on art. This was a few years ago now, though.

I've learned a lot of lessons, and I'm more responsible. I still fall back into lack of focus though. It was a really valuable experience, even if it paints me in a really shitty light. I don't run away from my mistakes, though.

From spending a fair amount of time drinking various types of alcohol with incredibly intelligent people (perhaps some of the smartest in the world), I can say that intellect doesn't really change. Just the willingness to talk about awkward subjects. Or subjects that nobody wants to hear about.

I know when I start getting tipsy, I start talking about how neurons work. Or electron microscopes.

This. I start discussing genetic futures and stem cell applications.

Common sense is more likely to vanish than intelligence.

I've actually found discussing science while drunk to be a common occurrence among scientists. Actually, I've found drinking in general to be fairly common among scientists.

I've gone to more bars in the last few months than I ever did in my entire life before.

Intelligent people drink. Evolutionary psychology says it's because of risk taking behavior.

When your brain is on over drive from thinking too much, people either get depressed, tired, or down. Some people drink to calm down the nervous system and the brain. People use alcohol as a numbing mechanism. How is drinking a risk taking behavior?

I should put it more as a 'novel seeking behavior'. Drinking alcohol is a novel human experience in the scope of evolution, a recent introduction to the human experience. Intelligence and novel seeking behavior are correlative and it applies to alcohol consumption. There's no such thing as universals but there are correlatives.

    Serious question here.

I've started using Sony Vegas Movie Maker, since I'm fed up of my old editing software fucking up whenever I try to use still images. And so far, I've found nothing but frustration and tedium.

The big question I have right now is - how can I insert a section of a video or audio file (a 20 second clip, for example) without having to make it a subclip and then dropping that into the timeline?

I used to be able to do this in my old program without a problem, but for the life of me I can't find a simple way of doing it here. I can use the video trimmer to set the in and out points, but then... why can't I just drop that specific section of the audio/video file into the timeline? This seems needlessly complex!

EDIT: Hang on, what's this 'Add Media Up to Cursor' button do...

    ...oh. Well. Never mind.

EDIT 2: OK, new question. I've got video files of extreme length (between 10 minutes and TWO HOURS), which makes it a bit of a pain to view in the video trimmer. Is there any way I can zoom in on the timeline in the video editor so I can pinpoint the exact clips I need?

All right. I'll do my best to help.

Also, they're working on higher resolutions.

The version I'm using can get a game up to 1280 X 800 with 4x resolution filters- and I'm sure you could get a game to go all the way up to 19xx X xxxx if it was natively a higher res than 320 X 200. But the version I'm using (Draconian) has some issues that need addressing still.

    Also, it's my birthday. Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaay.

Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum Version 11.0, according to the 'about' screen.

And while the scroll wheel does work for audio, it doesn't for video, which is annoying, because all the audio clips I have are around 10 minutes, it's the video clips I need to zoom in on. :(

I don't actually own Vegas, but I seem to remember there being a magnifying glass down the bottom right of the screen you could click on. I think. (this was several years ago!)
