Embarrassing Story

Nearly a year ago, Tales of Monkey Island was announced during E3 (at the very least, that's when I found out). Great, right? Well I certainly thought so. As soon as I found out, I jumped in excitement. I never jump in excitement. Now, I'm normally very agile, but this time I proceeded to land on my right ankle. It swelled up within seconds, forcing me to lay down my pride and go to a hospital. I sprained my ankle, which occasionally hurts a bit even today. Not exactly a huge injury, but one of my most memorable, considering what caused it.

Also, it was my birthday that day. What a GREAT gift, Telltale!

Now each time you get a stab of pain in your ankle, you will be reminded of the great day that you found out about the release of ToMI :).

When I read Ron's blog post about Tales I fainted and hit my head on a chair :(
I woke up a little while later thinking it was all a dream

It was a very surreal day
But yes... Monkey Island obsession can be dangerous :D

I was at my Grandma's house across the globe. It was, if memory serves, exactly 1 in the morning when I looked on the computer looking at some messages from E3 (time difference) and saw the news of ToMI that I started to giggle like a little school girl causing my sister to be confused until she saw it also (she had just finished watching Curse of Monkey Island a week or two ago too) and also started to get overly excited.

I don't remember much aside from being overly excited and the two of us being fangirls, but we proceeded to execute a diving maneuver towards the bed to hide from my grandma who was about to come in to tell us to go to bed cause it was late.

    Best. Night. Ever. *sigh*

When I heard of TMI, I jumped for joy! Unfortunately, I slipped of the edge of the gallows, and the noose pulled tight and... well... (I was arrested for various acts. Can't list 'em all.)

    ;)

Anyway, i remember reading a blog post about SMI:SE first, being excited, and them accidentally skimming over the TMI post. It wasn't until i revisited the SMI post that i saw it in the "related articles" section.

Similar to me, my brother called me in his room to show me on the Xbox live video update, that Monkey Island special edition was coming out, i was so excited, i quickly went onto google to search more info on the special edition, and in the results, it said Tales of Monkey Island pre-order...so i got two big suprises that day, i didnt hesitate to Pre-order Tales, i was shocked that i couldnt find United Kingdom....then realised they put it under Great britian...so wipped out my card and ordered straight away

I was just about to go to work when I found out about it. Longest work day of all time.

I was excited, even though I'd never played Monkey Island, I always wanted to. It was to not so great surprise when Telltale would be doing an epic version of a not-so-epic 20 years ago masterpiece.

I talked to my self (and still do) long before I started playing MI, I guess the game and I was meant for eachother. :D

And sadly I found the game when I was watching lets play's on youtube, because I never thought I would play them my self, worst decision I have ever made.

That is why I am going to wait a while before I get SoMI:SE and LR:SE, so I can forget it a little bit. :p

One of my managers at a theatre I used to work at told me they were making a new Monkey Island game, he wasn't even a big fan of the MI series, he just downloaded SoMI illegally most likely and knew there were a few sequels.

I went home that night and looked it up, and episode one had already been out for about a week! lol. Then, after ordering [and realizing I would have to install it on a different computer], I turned on my Xbox and all of a sudden BAM! SoMI:SE ready for download, and I didn't even know they were making it!

That was some night. And just one day earlier I thought the series was gone for sure.

I also have an embarassing MI story but it's REALLY embarassing... Maybe I'll post it later. It's shameful though. :( :D

    Now I'm really curious!

Sooo, after my big sister, her boyfriend and I played SoMI we all felt it was the best game ever made. You could even say it changed our lives in a way.

So anyways a few months later my sister brings home a copy of *gasp* MI2LR! It was a big surprise for all of us. But, and there was a but, we had to wait a while because both her and her boyfriend were very busy at work and there just wasn't the proper amount of time we knew we all would want to devote to playing the game. So we waited until the time was right.

We waited, and waited... and waited... days turned into weeks... the waiting! It was unbeareable... I couldn't take it anymore! After staring at the box cover and looking at the decoder wheel I just couldn't take it anymore... So, one day when they were both at work... I turned on the computer [keep in mind I'm just a kid at this point and although I know how to use computers wasn't fully savvy with all the technical lingo] wait for it to boot. I figured even if I have to un-install it later, I just GOTTA take a sneak peek... Insert disk 1... 'This disk is not formatted! Would you like to format now?' "Gee that sounds important I guess I better *click*"

    End of story. :(

I didn't get to play MI2 until I bought Curse some time later. It came with both 1 and 2 on a cd.

I disfigured an original MI2 floppy, shame on me.

yikes i got to agree that has got to be really embrassing, so what did your big sister say?
  • edited May 2010
Seem more distressing than embarrassing though, especially since you were just a kid at the time. Yes, what did your sister say? Did they find out right away?
  • edited May 2010
Oh about a month later we tried to install it. I honestly didn't know what I had done at the time, I just knew whatever it was, it wasnt good.

I never confessed, but I think she knew. A computer friend who helped us try to get it workin said the only possible thing that could be happening is that the disk is empty. : \ We just played Full Throttle instead.

At least CMI came with it though, thank goodness.
