I found this review on gamespot, and I was like woah.

Click on the video. The one that is just under the second paragraph.

It sounds just like Monkey Island.

    Not really.

    But it's all piratey!

Uhhhh.... tenuous at best I'm afraid.

They both have pirate themed elements.

I believe the similarities end there, unless there is some location or character that is remotely a MI Reference/Ripoff, I don't believe them to have ANY sort of similarities at all. I kinda think almost any pirate themed book/movie/game would have fit these similarities easily.

Well yeah. I see anything piratey and I'm like OOOO MONKEY ISLAND!

I don't see anything piratey at all about it.

It's EMI's missing mini-game on Jambalaya! They switched it for the diving challenge at the last minute.

    (;))

    On a slightly related note...

I was watching the Terry Gilliam film 'The Adventures of Baron Munchausen' (1988) on Blu-Ray yesterday (for the first time in 15 years or so) and I couldn't help but notice certain similarities between it and Monkey Island. I genuinely wonder if Ron Gilbert took some small amount of inspiration from the film when crafting his games.

Here is the trailer for the film:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vuqBKiKycbA

And here's a brief clip from the start of the film (where some stage actors are performing the legend of Guybrush Thre.... uh, Baron Munchausen):

You may note the leviathan, which later in the film you see happening from the REAL Baron Munchausen's point of view and I must say, the resemblance to Chapter 3 of TOMI is more than slight. In fact, once inside the beast, they find several old shipwrecks and a group of people who have lived within the creature for many years!

If anyone can locate an extended clip of this scene on the net for all to see, it would be much appreciated :)

Also, if they ever make a Monkey Island movie then Terry Gilliam would be perfect as director.
