Something weird about the "TM" thing...

In ToMI Chapter 4, Guybrush tells Elaine, "Honey, you are formally summoned to appear before the court of Judge Grindstump in the case of the People of Flotsam v. Guybrush Threepwood, Mighty Pirate... TM." And it's weird that though the subtitles say "TM" that follows any proper name, I heard Guybrush actually say "TM" after he says "Mighty Pirate". I just thought that "TM" was never spoken aloud in more recent Monkey Island games. Did any of you guys actually hear Guybrush say "TM" too?

I think the idea is that "TM" is written on the summons, and he's quoting from it? And if "TM" IS written on the summons, it's probably because Stan had it placed there. :)

    It's a joke.

Hearing him say it made me very happy. It was so ridiculously wonderful. There's nothing quite like Monkey Island humour.

I agree with that, Jenny. 18.gif

I love TM :D Played through SOMI again today as a bit of prep. for the race, and there's one line like "The governor of Melee Island (tm) has been kidnapped!"

The voice in my head always reads the text in the character's voice, but the TM in the voice of some dusty official in a suit.

I think Dom said in an interview that during one of the first recording sessions (I don't even remember for which game it was... MI1SE, ToMI or even CoMI??) that they had to decide, whether the TM would be spoken or not...
