Why would the hints mark a letter and then the space between the letters? That's more confusing than helpful, if you ask me. Didn't like this puzzle at all.
I had lots of trouble with this one too. Simply didn't make any sense to me even with all the hints. Imo there's cryptic & then there's vague outlines that aren't familiar at all unless you've seen that kind of stuff before (which I haven't). Could do with an 'example' system
This puzzle is interesting. I saw the answer immediately, but I hear a lot of people having trouble with it. Did anyone else find this puzzle rather easy?

I over-analyzed it. I was thinking the
length and order of the squiggles was some sort of code, rather than just being an outline.
I actually thought that the position of the blank spaces on the broken squiggles had someting to do with the position of the numbers on the keyboard...
This was the one I expect the iPad/iPhone users will likely get easier. There aree things you'd do to make things easier to visualize on a portable hand held with no moving parts.

Were you presented with the puzzle as a single thing or with the dialogue that preceeds it?
The woman saying it was a code really led me astray.
Yup, also, thought about it as code.
Even after using full hints I got it wrong twice, since only then did I found out the red stuff was supposed to form a "N".
I really liked this puzzle. My favourite so far. Makes you think in the obvious ways (coding, binary, etc.) before cottoning on to the correct answer and then being sure you're correct. That is the signature of a good puzzle that is - knowing you're correct when you've got it.

Yeah I found it easy, but I can see how people are overanalysing it.

In all seriousness, it took me two hints and falling out of my chair to get the solution. I thought the damn squiggle WIDTH and LENGTH were code to the position of the number on the numpad :{\

I found it mid-way. At first I thought it was two numbers being made, then I realised it spelt a word(after a hint).
spells out HIHE instead of NINE. The other pieces on the N's really should have been triangles, not dashes.
Yeah, they looked a lot more like Hs than Ns. I couldn't first picture the I and E at all, so all I saw was H H or N N. Since there's no number that spells H as first character, it must've been N N. That led me to Nine Nine, 99.
This is the only puzzle for which I got a 1 score because of severe over-analyzing.
First I tried to interpret the long and short lines as binary code which didn't work. After using two hints I tried the same thing with the spaces in between.
Even when it dawned on me that it could be letters, I didn't get it the solution because I too read
HIHE
and interpreted the letters as numbers and added them up...
I have to admit that I didn't get it at first (yup, tried binary), but with some hints I got it. It is a good puzzle.
As for the complaint about the squigies not being triangles, I thought that they looked like triangles. It's hard to tell the difference, but they are triangular.

I guess if you see it, it's easy... I had more trouble with this than any of the earlier puzzles, but I managed without a hint. Maybe the most confusing thing, to me, was that
you can enter two digits on the keypad, so I was looking for a two-digit answer
I looked at this puzzle for a long time and I finally resorted to looking online to get the answer. The hints had me convinced the answer was twenty...
If you look at the first section it appears to be an X, the pattern then repeats followed by an = sign.
So you have X X which in Roman Numerals is 20.
In addition to support the 20 theory there was:
line, dot, dot, line
line, dot, dot, line
and then an equals sign so I figured Morse Code. I looked up line, dot, dot, line in Morse Code and guess what? The letter X.
I thought the game had a glitch but it turns out: way too much thinking.
If you think that one's hard, try the Monkey Island 2 Hand puzzle.
I just figured it out yesterday, and I've been playing the game for about 13 years.
Just waited for a lucky strike the other playthroughs...

I actualy found this very easy. What is funny was my friend showed this to me on his Ipod touch saying it is the hardest one and I got it immediatly.
The fun part was over analysing it, I was expecting a room like 105 or 236, something big. So I kept looking at all the dashes and studying their positions relative to everything else, when really the answer sticks out like a sore thumb:

nine
Was strangely entertaining
And then there is me who laughed and said 9 instantly.

How about in the shaded red part in the in-game hint is supposed to be "what"? An number?
Perhaps try turning it sideways!
Clue:
Thanks!

Now of course I can't see anything else but the solution when I look at it.

The red outline in the hint told me it was a Z or a 2. So that gives 22 + something below (11?) Nothing useful in any way
It's the only puzzle that had me completely stumped with no way to get any further except for browsing this board.
Then I thought it was submit count what I was intended to type so I typed "9" when it would be 9th submission attempt.
Basically it was one of few puzzles I didn't fail because of too vague rules.
