Trouble with the "Time of Big Boom" puzzle

I stumped at the "Time of Big Boom" puzzle. (The one in front of the factory). The in-game hints aren't helping me. Anyone have any tips?

    i just did this puzzle! Basically you need to find out what time the big noise was. The guards had shifts for 24 hours. Now what you know that one guard started at 6:00 but you dont know if thats am or pm. One Guard guarded for 8 hours and one for 3. 8+3 =11. 11 - 12 = 1, so the guard that started at 6 ended at 1.

    There are two possible solutions to this one. Both 3 and 8 are viable given the statements. Bernie doesn't actually say that the incident happen in his shift (also, it is possible to solve it without interpreting his shift as the second to last from the beginning). All you really need to understand is that Iggy can't have taken the shift at 18:00.

    One thing that I didn't get the first time (sorry if the hints already say this)
    The guard that says he worked from 6 am/pm till being relieved means he was relieved by ANOTHER GUARD, if that helps.

    I didn't like this puzzle, for a couple of reasons:
    The last shift still happened, despite the fact there was an explosion in the penultimate shift.
    The guy doing the penultimate shift is said to have put in the full 8 hours, again, despite a big-ass explosion after 7 hours.
    We are supposed to assume that the penultimate guy was the only person to hear the explosion, even though it was an explosion! The last two guys could easily be the other way around, and the guy who talks about hearing it was on last, knew it was an hour before the last shift because he heard an explosion while driving to the place.

    I agree with all of this, and I will go to say that this puzzle is the worst in the game... It is just confusing and illogical.

    Lol i disagree... so far this puzzle made the most sense to me. puzzle 3 is the worst iv seen so far.

    The only thing I disagree about this puzzle and makes it illogical is that it assumes, whithout telling the gamer, that the shifts are divided into two "blocks": from 00:00 to 12:00 (a.m. block) and from 12:00 to 24:00 (p.m. block). Not knowing this it's impossible to solve.
    I solved the enigma with 2 hints, and the second one basically gave me the solution. So I clicked on the clock and went on.
    Thumb down.

    Meh, I figured the 6 couldn't be PM (as then it would be hard to count in the 8 hours from the other guard). He wasn't the last shift.
    So last shift had to be 3 hour guy.
    12-3-1
    = answer.

    And I was right. 10.
    That was really easy, but I skipped all the major deduction from the "how" list :D.

    I thought the game's worst illogical puzzles were all fairly near the beginning and got better towards the end. Hated this one most of all though!

    Out of interest, is there any reason *this* is an invalid answer:
    Pop (3 hours): 24:00 -> 3:00
    Al (7 hours): 3:00 -> 10:00
    Bernie (8 hours): 10:00 -> 18:00 (explosion at 17:00)
    Iggy (6 hours): 18:00 -> 24:00

    The only thing that strikes me as a possibility is the fact that Iggy talks about being relieved, but there's nothing to suggest he was relieved *by one of the other guards*.

    ...

    Some people *really* try to nitpick descriptions, don't you?

    Well, yeah, I concede that, but you do have to admit that the whole *key* to some puzzles is found by nitpicking the information you're given at the start...

    Of course he was relieved by one of the guards. That is why that does not work.
