The Frozen Guy's Map... HELP ME!

I can't for the life of me figure out how the guy's map works. Am I supposed to steer away from the gnomes or follow them? I can't figure it out!

    you must avoid the gnomes and cut off all paths that lead to the gnomefields.

    Basically, you must have a path that goes from you to the goal, without any 'split' reaching a gnome.

    I agree it wasn't explained well.

    Figured it out on my own. I didn't read the instructions carefully enough.
