TOMI Commentary

Just finished watching the commentary included with the dvd, and I love it. It's SUCH a good feature! It's really interesting to get the behind the scenes view of each episode, and the way that it's presented (in movie format vs. trying to squeak it into the game somehow) is easy to use, and saves time. Love knowing more of the inside jokes, and comparing the "this is how we originally wanted to do this puzzle" with the final product!

Just wanted to thank the Telltale Team for taking the time to do this and making it available to fans!

Thanks for the info! I'm curious to hear it myself. Great idea to add this DVD movie feature to a game.

I've only seen the first one so far, but it was really good and I'm looking forward to the rest when I have time.

Is Dominic Armato part of the commentary? He wanted to be, and basically it just depended on someone inviting him...

Sadly no, Dom doesn't appear in the commentary. But I found the commentary videos one of the best features on the DVD, along with the concept art gallery. Very interesting stuff, and well worth the money.

The commentary in the first episode is fun, with the Telltale guys mentioning
their regret of saying jokingly that Tales was MI 6
    .

    Oh, and confirming that
Killer Walrus LeChuck gag was indeed a reference to the concept art with the huge tusks
    .

I would have loved that too, but these commentaries are usually the makers' territory, right? I mean, Dom could comment on how funny / difficult / challenging some lines were for him to do in various scenes or express his personal opinion of the game, but I usually listen to the commentary to get background info (e. g. original ideas for a puzzle or scene that were eventually dismissed e.g.)

Do they talk about community forum stuff?
  • edited July 2010
They mention a few things like how Winslow had so much activity on the forums, and a few other bits a pieces. Yeah, Telltale seems to be very connected to their fanbase.

Well, actually I had hoped for a separate Dom-only commentary. But I guess he answered so many questions on the forums and in all those interviews he did, that there would not have been much more for him to talk about.

Maybe a _Guybrush_ commentary would have been fun. :D

I proposed that idea back then:

Given that both Sam & Max Season DVDs got audio-commentary tracks on the cutscene-reels, would you be interested in doing an "actor's commentary", or even an in-character "Guybrush-commentary" for the DVD? And don't wind out with a "let's wait until there's actually a DVD to do commentaries for"-answer...
I didn’t see them, but that’d be awesome! In-character would be tricky. There isn’t much call for improv in VO, so it isn’t something I have a lot of practice with. I couldn’t imagine a better character to do it with than Guybrush, though.

I can literally hear him commenting on how heroic he was when he threw his shred of life into the crossroads rip or, being totally embarrassed, trying to deftly distract the audience from a scene like after he cut open the porthole in LeChuck's capsized ship in CMI or when he's caught by Elaine's gardener in LCR. The more I think about it, the more I like this idea.

    Audio commentaries WITHOUT subtitles
    BIG FAIL

    Audio commentaries WITHOUT subtitles
    BIG FAIL

    I agree.

The commentary track was a slight disappointment. There's no alternate audio tracks for a second or third commentary, or(more importantly) to run the scenes as a cutscene reel rather than just an audio commentary. People who don't have their computers constantly feeding video and audio into their televisions may miss the ability to simply watch the commentary or non-existent cutscene reel on their televisions.

On the other hand, the actual commentary track is great. I just would like to echo my view from an older thread asking what we liked about the Sam and Max DVDs, that I miss having a Sound Guys commentary, and I want to see more stuff like that.

I like the actual track very much, but it lacks the execution and variety of previous releases.

How long is the commentary/documentary? :)

Each episode has a roughly 20-30 minute commentary.

I wish my DVD was not stuck in a warehouse going on a week and a half.

Yeah, seems like our DVDs are on the same pile, waaaay behind all the others. :D

Eh. Already bought ToMI twice. Once on Steam and once on PSN. I'd love to hear the commentary but I don't have the money to paste down for another version of the same game.

Looved the commentary, but am I the only one a little dissapointed with the lack of special features on the DVD? Perhaps I just had my hopes up a little too high. I was expecting gag reels, interviews etc.
So glad the 'what happens' series made it though.

I just finished watching the rest of the commentaries today! They're all awesome! My favourite new fact is learning how Club 41 got its name.
