Hello I have a question

Hello i am new here , i just finished Tales of monkey island , the story line was touching and all , but i was wondering really , is there any chance there will be any new Monkey island games continueing the previous game ? (which ends at Rise of the Pirate God) now that morgan is a ghost pirate hunter and guybrush managed to defeat le chuck again , so ... do you guys think theres a chance we might see a new monkey island game in the near future ? or ever ?:confused::confused:

I'm sure we will see another Monkey Island game in the future, it's a very strong possibility, but it hasn't yet been confirmed by Telltale. Also, you are aware that there are four other Monkey Island games besides Tales, aren't you?

Yes i am although i really liked The fourth one (escape) and this one most. the first one i finished , 2nd one and 3rd one i actually never got to play but now after i played tales , i really dont feel like playing them , i still think tales is the best of all the games that came out so far ! heck , you know , i was really dreaming to see a new monkey island game after i played Escape from monkey island like .. ho.. damn i cant remember when i finished it , must've been at 2001 or something , for whole 9 years matey !

By the way , why are they remaking the first and 2nd monkey island for ? isnt that like boring to repeat the same story line and jokes all over ? I always thought that once you finish a monkey island game it gets boring doing so the 2nd time , but that first time is great !

Both SMI:SE and TMI supposedly sold very well, so I'm sure we'll see a sixth Monkey Island game at some point.

Wow, you must be one of the ten people in the world who feel so.

By the way, most people consider to be part 2 and 3 the best ones of the series, so MAYBE you should think again about not playing them ;)

You've never played 2 or 3!? Wow, you are missing out. 3 (Curse of Monkey Island) is my personal favourite of the series. Heck, Curse of Monkey Island is quite possibly my favourite game of all time :). And, as for 2 (LeChuck's Revenge), it is widely considered to be the best of the series. So, I strongly encourage you to play those games, you'll be missing out otherwise.

Well, those games were made in the early 90's, so the graphics are very dated, and there's also no voice in 1 and 2. So, LucasArts decided to update them; giving them new graphics, updated music, and the also added voice to the game. Overall, it makes for a much better experience.

Compare this to this. You can't tell me it wasn't worth it.

Personally I hope that whether it's Telltale or Lucasarts or some third party making another Monkey Island sequel, I hope that they wait a while, and I hope that the story starts up after another wide-ish gap of time, and that Morgan doesn't pop up until something like halfway through the game. So you start to wonder about her first.

I do prefer that Telltale will do it, but I hope they basically scrap all the art assets from the first season and redo everything basically from scratch, not because I disliked anything about Tales, but because I like each Monkey Island game feeling like a completely different generation.

um well , I should reconsider playing those games then , heh btw , i actually think i am 1 of the few people who actually never believed that lechuck could become a 'good guy' really , for most of the game he was pretty.... convincing , hehe.:)

The second and third games should not be missed.

Don't get this discussion started all over again...

But really, go and play parts 2 and 3. It's gonna keep you busy for at least some time and distract you from the fact that the announcement of MI6 is probably gonna take a while.

Plus: Have you never asked yourself what Guybrush was going to say in "Siege of Spinner Cay" when Elaine gave him her ring? ("Oh no, that's the one I....") Play The Curse of Monkey Island and find out about the prestory of that ring which had an even bigger role then!

Also this. How can anyone not care about Dominic Armato voicing Guybrush for the first two games... but wait, you didn't play Curse. hmm.

Play them all in order, with the SE's for the first 2 games. MI2SE (Special Edition of the second game) comes out in 23 hours, and if you preorder it on Steam for $10 between now and then, you'll get SMISE (Special Edition of the first game) for free!

It's not meant to start a discussion. But from what I've heard on these and other forums, it's a pretty exact estimation.

$10 dollars for two great entries into a series you liked, the ones that started it all, is too much for you? :/

Also, talking about torrenting the games on a semi-official Monkey Island forum is probably not the best thing to do.

Excuse me? Forget about our advice to play the missing games then. You should pay for quality.

So you've never played the 2nd and 3rd one and don't want to because you really liked Tales, plus Tales is the best out of the 5 in your opinion despite never having played 2 and 3?

Anyway, go play both now, both are far better than Tales or Escape. I'd say they're the best two of the series.

Obviously he hadn't bought ToMI neither, so I don't want to discuss the games with him at all anymore.

Thanks for all the comments people, and cya :>

P.S - Lets see hmmmmmm which insult should i use now? ... Ah !
I've seen Manatees with Better attitude than some of you ! (actually i just made this one , some sort of a good-bye insult) Lol, ah kidding oh well , cya !

I didn't think you could pirate ToMI*. If you can, then the only people putting up with that slightly irritating DRM thing are the ones who have actually paid for it...
Anyway, if you haven't got Tales legally, do so. The reason we never saw the completion of the original series was because of not enough people doing what you are yourself now not doing.
Moving on, get LeChuck's Revenge: Special Edition, when it comes out in a couple of days. Everything you liked about Escape from Monkey Island is in it, and it doesn't have the low quality graphics that you may have disliked from Secret of Monkey Island.
If you liked Tales of Monkey Island most for its ultra-accessible episodic format, and generally easy gameplay, check out The Devil's Playhouse. We're in the middle of the series now, and you should find it fun. :)

*You can't pirate SMI or LCR either, what with the dial-a-pirate spinner and voodoo recipe card.
  • edited July 2010
    This guy is unbelievable!

He wouldnt pay 10 bucks for a game!?!?!? I can understand before Special Editions, but now theres quality and Lucas arts needs the money for more adventure games!

You can. There are versions out there with the copy protection illegally cracked.

But like everyone else said... don't do it. If you like the series and want to see more, give money to the companies that make it. Their decisions about what games to make in the future are based on how much money they take in.

ScummVM doesn't illegally crack the DRM on diskette copies of SMI and LCR. It does show the copy protection screen, but doesn't require you to put in the right numbers.

But anyways Leetwood, if you're going to pirate two fantastic games that collectively cost 10 bucks, and advertise about it on the forums of the developer for the last chapter in the series... then I might recommend first playing a fun little game called "Let's remove the computer's CPU fan while it's still on and see what happens" or else we can play "How long does it take for an ethernet cable to catch fire?"

I wasn't thinking of ScummVM; there have been cracked versions of the games floating around the net for much longer than ScummVM has existed.

But if it shows the copy protection screen but you can just put in anything, is that not functionally exactly the same as cracking it? I don't get what you mean.
  • edited July 2010
No it's not. The game files are untouched. It's the way the interpreter "interprets" the game files that matters. And since ScummVM effectively replaces the EXE file of a game (and therefore is a new engine, so to speak) it can do (or rather, the software author can do) whatever it likes when confronted with copy protection screens. Cracks only apply to modifying the original game files.

Yeah, and LucasArts even supplied us with a crack... Imagine that... Why would a developer supply an "illegal" crack to one of their games?!? :D But now seriously, MI Bounty Pack and MI Madness cd with SMI and LCR came pre-cracked, and most cracks you find on the net are from those versions.. As for ScummVM, it does display the copy protection screen but you can enter anything you want.

I can't believe this guy... Jeez...

I hung my head in disappointment when I saw a pirate copy of Monkey Island SE at our local market. I just looked at it and said under my breath "what a shame to do this to such a classic". Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!

Uhh... Devoid of respect or common sense ?
And i suppose that's because i Said that i dont pay for games(in a semi official site )? Infact , If you read again, I never said i actually Downloaded the game , I said generally its what i do , Not in this specific case though , I've seen Dogs smarter than you , You sorry excuse for a worm.

Offtopic - I still Cant get it why people use the word 'Respect' on a forum , I dont seek any of it, I wanted to ask a question , And i got my answer, I dont argue too much on forums , infact , thats my first time really considering the caliber of people's attitude around here that i've recently seen and on second thought, I am really not surprised.

It's immature posts like that which will lose you respect. Swearing at people isn't a way to win an argument. What you've posted here is just confirming our previous perception of you.
