Why no 360?

edited August 2010 in Tales of Monkey Island
So, why is this on PS3 but not XBox Live Arcade?

I mean, I already played it on the PC but still. Why did I not have the option to play it and also get PRECIOUS ACHIEVEMENTS?

    1. we already have a thread about this

2.ACHIEVEMENTS DONT MATTER!!!!!!! if they did i would have bought lechucks revenge special edition on 360.

3.Telltale work hard to port their games on all consoles creating a thread doesnt help them

4.Telltale have a lot on their hands what with porting puzzle agent to wiiware(which is different than porting this to xbla because puzzle agent was stated to be on wiiware where as tales has not), finishing sam and max devils playhouse, and working on jurassic park and back to the future

I apologize for creating a new thread and not searching for an old one.

However. Achievements are fun. I enjoy them. I am not the only person in the world that enjoys them. You don't need to e-yell at me that they don't matter. Ignore them. But I enjoy them. And if I was the only want that enjoyed them, I doubt Sony and Blizzard and Valve would have copied the idea. I bought both MI re-releases on the 360 instead of the PC pretty much just for that reason, but now in retrospect I like to think I was also doing it to spite you.

Anyway. I was just hoping to find some kind of word as to whether or not there are plans to put it on 360 at the time I posted this, but a recent episode of XBox Live's sent u a message show stated that there weren't any plans for it, in case anyone else was still wondering.

Im not really yelling its just how you said it it seemed like that was all you cared about and yes i do like achievements(they do give you something to do in games) it is just that you called them preciouse as if that was the only thing in a game. Also as i stated dont worry, telltale has stated they would love to port their games to all the major consoles. Since tales made it to psn i would assume it will come to xbla soon.

To be fair, I think you overreacted just ever so slightly, Gman. ;)

While we're on the topic of achievements, I don't see why Telltale doesn't add their own achievement framework. Obviously the games have achievement/trophy support (They're required for PSN and Xbox Live) and the Telltale wrapper already supports account-specific game-to-telltalegames.com communication a la the ToMI Treasure Hunt.

    Or at least Steamchievements.

What exactly *is* that treasure hunt thingie?

    Anywho...

I've said it before, but there's some new things happening with Xbox Live Arcade this fall which might explain the delay. (I know nothing. The closest I come to working for Lucas-anything is a lightsaber lamp on my desk. This is only pure speculation.) Kinect's on everyone's minds, but also of note is Windows Mobile 7, which will be able to play xbox live arcade titles, also allowing games and licenses to sync with the device. Microsoft hasn't really been touting this as some sort of xbox portable, so you may not have heard about it unless you were watching the cell phone industry.

Both scenarios would have a lot of potential impact on a point-and-click game, but would require some retooling. For example, if you've ever run ScummVM on windows mobile, you know it works, and runs well (There's a Curse of Monkey Island in my pocket!), but it's pretty quirky. You can't hover the cursor over an item to see what it is without clicking and dragging, which results in accidental clicks. (Hmm, maybe they should make a Blackberry storm version...)

They've already said before that they want to do it, so I think it's not so much a question as whether it'll happen, but when.

Admittedly, I've got both the Wii and PC versions, and I'd love to have it on my 360 as well. Am I a nerd? Why, yes!

Yeah, I'd pretty much kill for PC version achievements via TTG's store, but it'll most likely never happen.

Why? It doesn't bring anything good to the game. Achievements and adventure games don't really fit together. Steam achievements for LCR are really stupid. Sure I could finish the game in less than three hours, but then I would miss all the jokes etc. What's the fun in that? Others you can get by simply finishing the game, which makes them less than special.

IMHO achievements don't fit to anything besides multiplayer games where you can brag to others how many medals etc. you have achieved by killing other players in some special way.

Look at the Trophies for Tales. Now look back to your post. Now back to Tales. Sadly, your post doesn't depict good trophies nearly as well as Tales. But if you were to have achievements on the PC, you would already know this. SWAN DIVE

I googled Trophies for Tales, but I'm not impressed. Those are bit better than in LCR, but nevertheless I don't get the point of having trophies in an adventure game. I find the concept suitable for competitive games i. e. where you play against others, like in poker, but adventure games are more like solitaire. You play it only to see if you can solve it, there's no competition against others.

The reason there are Trophies in Adventure games though is because you can actually complete an Adventure game without even hearing Half of the Jokes most of the time.

And that's what most trophies in these kind of games are related to, Jokes and Dialogue that CAN be missed. For example, in Chapter 4 of TOMI, I didn't even know about the mock Shakespeare moment with the leg until I went for 100% on that. They're just little ways for the devs to entice players to find all the in jokes and references that they've put soo much effort into hiding around (YES I'M LOOKING AT YOU "TellTale Loves You" FROM SAM & MAX 304!).

Still there's no need for trophies or other external systems, besides in the worst case scenario trophy can spoil something by revealing to you that certain things are possible in the game.

If you want to know how much of the game you have completed then some external trophy system isn't most helpful, but instead in-game point system would be a lot more helpful, like in Indiana Jones adventures there was Indy Quotient points or point system of the old Sierra games. Both told you how much of the game you had solved without telling you specifically what you had missed. In both there was possibility of solving the game without reaching maximum score (in fact you had to find several alternative solutions in Indy games to gain the max score). Personally I can live without such systems, but then again in Gabriel Knight 3 it was nice to know that I had missed a lot of additional stuff in my first playthrough. But then again that game was huge, compared to normal adventures, so it's no surprise.

So you're saying there's no need for it, games should have their own system, but it's nice that it's there? Just curious, have you actually checked the Achievement/Trophy descriptions, they don't really give away anything or tell you how to do them, it's still all up to you to figure out how to do the joke.
