Question for Telltale

edited August 2010 in Tales of Monkey Island
Hi, I'm finally ready (i.e. have the money) to buy the TOMI Deluxe Pack. However, I can't find a link in order to purchase the product (just a link for the standard DVD). Please can someone tell me where I can order please?

I really need the answer by tomorrow at the latest.

Many thanks.

It's sold out at the moment, possibly indefinitely. :(

Uhhh, okay. If Telltale has no intention of getting in more copies then they've just lost a LOT of respect from this loyal customer. In effect, it's a little like saying "you're poor and therefore are not entitled to the deluxe edition". I've spent ages saving up the money and now this?! Colour me unimpressed

Also, am I wrong in thinking that the updated Earl Boen voice acting is exclusive to the deluxe edition?! If this is the case then I may actually boycott all future Telltale releases (and no, I'm not joking).

Well, many collector's edition items are limited runs, and buying early is necessary to ensure you get a copy. Granted, if the demand is still there, I could see them bringing it back at some point, but I don't know when/if that will happen.

And the Earl Boen acting is in the standard DVD as well as the Deluxe DVD, and will eventually be in the downloadable release as well.

I understand what you're saying but I wasn't actually aware that the deluxe pack was a limited run (if it indeed is).

What with Boen's updated dialog being on the standard DVD as well I guess I won't be boycotting Telltale just yet but I still wish to express my displeasure with them and let them know that they've lost some sizable kudos as far as I'm concerned...

unless, someone from TTG could confirm that more deluxe packs are on the way. As I said in my first post, if you want to me to make an order then you're going to have to let me know what's going on (and if I can expect more deluxe packs to be in stock in the future) by tomorrow by the latest. Otherwise you can count on one less sale for good.

This is probably as close to an official answer as you are going to get before tomorrow.

You have to remember, for it to be financially viable for Telltale they'd need to get hundreds more made and there might not be hundreds more people who'd buy it.

It's almost always the case that 'deluxe' versions of things are also limited edition, regardless of whether it's specified or not. Keep an eye on eBay, I'm sure one will pop up eventually.

I don't think you're being very fair. We knew the DVD was coming months ahead. I had saved up enough for the deluxe edition by the time 2009 turned into 2010. Sure, the Deluxe Edition itself hadn't been announced, but there was going to be a DVD and goodies, so...

It's sad that it took you long enough to save up for it that it was already sold out, but it's not telltale's fault. The Deluxe Edition itself is only $15 (the difference is the price of the game, that you could buy over a year ago and therefore had plenty of time to save up for) and the preorders started in what, March? And it was sold out just now, in August, so that's like 6 months to save up $15, I don't think it was unreasonable to expect the customers to be able to do that.

Or, in other words, you just had bad luck this time.

This. It's maybe not your fault you didn't have the money, but it's not Telltale's either. As several people have said, it's normal for deluxe editions and the like to be limited edition.

It could have been bit more than just $15. First I though of ordering the regular DVD with the price of shipping. But then I noticed that shipping costs to Europe were something like $18. So if I had ordered just the Deluxe Edition it would have been $33.

Luckily there was offer at the time when pre-orders started that if you buy stuff with $50 you get free shipping. So I counted that pre-ordering Sam & Max Season 3 and Deluxe Edition is cheaper than pre-ordering Sam & Max + regular Monkey Island DVD. :D

Some fair comments here to be sure. I guess I did overreact somewhat. I'll just buy the deluxe pack off e-bay when it comes along; that means no money for Telltale but that's life.
