Nooooo! De Signe! :(

SPOILERS ALERT!

Was anyone else disappointed to see de Singe gone? He was one of the most ..original.. characters in Monkey Island in over a decade, and would've made an excellent addition to the series as a regular like the Threepwoods, LeChuck, Miss Voodoo, Stan and Murray.

The fact that he wasn't (or didn't think that he was) French only added to the potential for more hilarity :D

It was a serious letdown to see that annoying Morgan kept alive (when ironically her character would've been redeemed a lot much more if she stayed dead) and not de Singe who could've given old LeChuck a run for his doubloons if any of his plans succeeded, nevermind a much-needed contrast of "science" against all that voodoo that keeps coming up in the series.

I would rather be in dread of running into one of de Singe's labs again in a later game instead of having to see LeFlay's squeaking face one more time.

..besides, he reminded me of Dr. Fred Edison - where everything all began in the first place ;) if you know what I mean.

I hated him. He was annoying (and not in a good way).

Hey, he wasn't any more annoying than Murray! :p

You meant: "I hated him" "In my opinion, he was annoying (and not in a good way)."

A lot of people think different about this, me included!

DeSinge was one of the things that made this series epic in my opinion

Heh. Well, I actually thought Murray was pretty funny. :P

Honestly, I was more than happy to see De Singe gone. He was funny, I'll give him that, but he was definitely one of those villians you "love to hate".

I'm sure they'll come up with some other amusing jerk to replace him with someday.

De Singe was a funny character, but I don't think there was much more for him to do in the game than he did, because he wasn't a true villain. I liked his voice though, I think Jared Emerson-Johnson is really talented being a voice actor as well as a musician.

As for Morgan, I was annoyed by her at first, but as the game went by I started liking her as she was in fact a sweet person. Personally I enjoyed when Elaine got jealous when she thought that Guybrush cheeted on her with Morgan, because I always thought Elaine took Guybrush for granted. Personally I hope she will return, maybe to help Guybrush a little.

De Singe served his purpose. He worked well for what they needed him for, and he didn't overstay his welcome. Had he been made a series regular (assuming LucasArts ever allows more Monkey Island to be produced), he would've gotten old fast.

As for Morgan, I felt she was a far more compelling character than De Singe. Morgan had conflict, Morgan actually brought some emotional weight to the game. De Singe was just an ass. He was an ass because the story needed an ass, but he was an ass just the same.

And really, "all that voodoo that keeps coming up"? Voodoo is a major element of the series. Monkey Island without voodoo is like Star Wars without the Force.

Yeah, shaking up the status quo can be a good thing, but not just for its own sake. They changed things up a little bit, but not too much, and I'm very happy with where the story was at the end.

But, you see, this is a fact!

Unless it's just his opinion that all his posts are opinions, in which case someone else might be of the opinion that some of his "opinions" are facts. For example, right now.

He could come back as a ghost, and then as a zombie, etc.
  • edited August 2010
In my opinion, you're all crazy. How's that for an opinion?
  • edited August 2010
But that's not an opinion, it's a fact. A well-established fact, in fact.

Murray is easily one of my favorite characters in the franchise. Designe is a good villain but yes a tad annoying, which is why his death made him perfect because it was the most violent death in any MI game.

Yes, he was perfectly designed from a narrative point of view when he gets grinded up into french fairy dust. Best MI character ever, well written.

Yes but Star Wars still has major characters that have nothing to do with the Force. Monkey Island doesn't have enough regulars who don't dabble in Voodoo.

de Signe actually represented an opposing element that could've balanced the Voodoo theme out rather nicely, otherwise it risks losing its coolness when just about everyone uses it to do everything (like the court summons.)

    ah.

    ...

    wait, what??

Morgan was an awesome character. And hot. Morgan is hot. :D

Also, I thought the general consensus on the forums was that DeSinge was only slightly less annoying than the Soda Poppers.

De Singe says it when you ask why he isn't wearing a french beret insted of a turban

pfeh you can keep her. She wasn't half as cute as my wife, I mean Elaine :3

    I'm also married.

But Morgan is still hot. :)

By "wasn't half as cute as [...] Elaine," which version of which game? I admit Elaine from the VGA closeups in SoMI is also hot (though I just can't say which is better between VGA closeup SoMI Elaine and ToMI Morgan.)

    Certainly.

-locks the gun pile in a chest, sticks the only key down his pants, picks up the banjo, and shreds-

I thought DeSinge was a good villain, but I don't particularly want him to be brought back. He ran his course and was defeated in a satisfying way.
