Top 10 Best Moments in the Monkey Island Series!
So I created a list of the Top 10 Best Moments in the Monkey Island series and submitted them to GameFAQs a few days ago. Sure, it was back-breaking work, but all my work paid off. Here it is:
Top 10 Best Moments in the Monkey Island Series
Oh, and I forgot that I didn't mention the stump joke of TSoMI or Guybrush and Murray haunting Mort the Gravedigger in CoMI, but oh well. No harm done, right?

This thread sounds so familiar...hasn't someone else had that idea before?
Maybe it's not the most popular thing on the list but I'd say it's one of the most controversial things on that list and one of the most widely discussed parts of the franchise.
In some ways that makes it one of the "top" or best, or strongest moments in the franchise. Even if we have our own opinions, I enjoy talking to you guys about the series.
I'm a "she", you know. And I did mention that #6 is criticized as a retcon of the Horatio Torquemada Marley storyline compared to Curse.
It is a retcon, and you mean compared to Secret, Revenge and Curse. It's also a bad retcon that doesn't make sense. Toothrot was called Toothrot before he even arrived on the island, and H.T. Marley was killed when LeChuck went looking for Big Whoop, which was after he fell in love with Elaine Marley (and she wasn't old enough for it to have been a 20-year-long obsession at that point.)
According to LeChuck in Curse, Big Whoop is really a portal leading to Hell. When LeChuck passed through it, he died.
According to Estevan in the SCUMM Bar in Secret, LeChuck was alive when he fell in love with Elaine, but "she told him to drop dead, so he did" which puts LeChuck's death by Big Whoop after the beginnings of his obsession with Elaine.
According to LeChuck in Curse, he killed Rum Rogers after becoming a ghost. Though he doesn't explicitly give the time taken between, it is reasonable to assume he didn't take long before or afterward to kill H.T. Marley. Also, according to Rum Rogers Jr. in Revenge, when Guybrush beat him at the drinking game, he had "only inherited [Rum Rogers Sr.'s] house two months ago." This means Rum Rogers Sr. was declared dead not too long before those 2 months.
According to the Captain's Log aboard the Sea Monkey in Secret, the captain refers to his first mate as "Toothrot" throughout the entire voyage to Monkey Island, however in Escape, Toothrot claims to have taken on the name Herman Toothrot after being hit in the head by various objects while already on Monkey Island at the time that they happened.
And anyway, this list is supposed to be the "Top 10 best moments of MI," not the Top 10 most controversial/discussed. For Herman to be either a big fat liar or a lunatic is not the sixth best moment of Monkey Island.
I know. That's why I put "or so [Toothrot] claims", because what Toothrot says can't be true when he "regains" his memory. Also, according to Lemonhead in Curse, "We underwent a paradigm shift in our belief system several years ago... Completely cut back on our fatty missionary intake and went vegetarian altogether." That might have been a few years after Guybrush met the cannibals, although it says that the cannibals went vegetarian a few months after Guybrush met them. I even put in "Many years ago, before the events of Secret" in #9, I think, instead of "a few years ago". And I think may have made a mistake in placing Herman Toothrot as #6. I should have put "Guybrush beating LeChuck in Monkey Kombat" as #6, but I just couldn't find a best moment in Escape other than stupid Herman Toothrot or Monkey Kombat. If only there was a way to change the Top 10 list in GameFAQs... but... I'm sorry and I hope you can forgive me.
There's different ways to see things though...
You're right. Even though the alternate Herman Toothrot storyline in Escape is a big inconsistency or incompatibility in #6, it is still considered as a "best" moment, right? Thanks.
Also, according to this link, "While these changes alter the established history of the series significantly all of Herman's in-game activities (helping Guybrush escape from Monkey Island and teaching philosophy on Dinky) are mentioned and still considered canon in the fourth game." That's fair, right?
Uhh... what?
He confuses us all at times. His posts range from deep and quite intelligent to... well, this sort of thing.
