If ToMI 2 is to be released...
...I hope it may be a musical game. I mean, you can still explore the islands and solve puzzles without singing, but some of the puzzles will be musical and rhythm-based, and some will be like "A Pirate I Was Meant to Be" in The Curse of Monkey Island; and most cutscenes and the storyline will be singing-based a la "Once More, With Feeling" from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, as shown here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Once_More,_with_Feeling_(Buffy_the_Vampire_Slayer)
Also, I just hope the LucasArts creators bring back the "Plank of Love" song for the ending of ToMI Season 2. That song was never brought to fruition in CoMI due to time constraints even though the lyrics were written, so they've got to bring the melody back for this one. And I just hope Dominic Armato (Guybrush) and Alexandra Boyd (Elaine) may sing as it should have been a long time ago. Maybe Neil Patrick Harris and others may join them in other songs as well. And I quote (boldface mine)...
"...but some of the puzzles will be musical and rhythm-based, and some will be like "A Pirate I Was Meant to Be" in The Curse of Monkey Island; and most cutscenes and the storyline will be singing-based"
A singing-based storyline, and most cut scenes involving singing, with many of the puzzles being musical and rhythm-based ... sounds like MONKEY ISLAND: THE MUSICAL to me! Not a value judgment, you understand. But it sure sounds like he's looking for a little more than "the bone song" or "A Pirate I Was Meant To Be!"
Ah, ok. I'm never good at understanding what people mean:p Thanks for letting me know.
But I'm also the only one, most likely.
Instead, why not just have one or two great musical numbers? There need to be more musical numbers in videogames...
Oh, and I'm a woman, BTW.
1) Why would Neil Patrick Harris be involved in a future game? Surely his only connection with Monkey Island is that fans would like him to star as Guybrush in a movie.
2) Why would anybody want "Plank of Love" recorded?! It's so incredibly bad! Even the official strategy guide makes clear that it was considered godawful!
But there was definetly a musical number planned for Chapter 4 I believe which got cut out because it didn't fit with the tone of the rest of the chapter.
#2. I thought the song never made it due to the team running out of time in CoMI? And since when did the official strategy guide for CoMI prove that "Plank of Love" was bad?
This.
1) I wonderd this too. Personally I don't think NPH fits Guybrush's image. He's nearly 40 years old and openly gay.
Also, I wouldn't mind a little bit of songs included in MI like they did in CMI, but please don't make it a musical game.
I'm confused by this statement. What does that have to do with him playing Guybrush? I certainly think he doesn't really fit the role, and he may well be too old, but he's an actor. He can act. Therefore, his sexual orientation is entirely irrelevant as long as he can act like his sexual orientation is the same as whatever character he is playing.
Of course, I'm confused about why Neil Patrick Harris was even brought up. Did I miss something? Perhaps a post that mentioned Neil Patrick Harris was edited before I had a chance to read this thread?
qft.
You're right. NPH being gay is nothing to do with his acting ability. I just meant that Guybrush isn't gay, and certainly didn't mean that Neil Patrick Harris can't act a straight guy because he's gay. I'm sorry if anybody is offended by my comment.
If it ever were developed into something beyond a game, it'd probably do better as a TV series. Now that Lucasfilm's getting into cartoons, it might be a possibility if they ever decide to do something non-Star-Wars.
I declare this thread officially derailed.
