What happens when you track you package?

My DVd of Tales of monkey island has just shipped and I now have the option of tracking my package - I did so 5 times with my tracking number. What does this means and what happens when I do this?

    When you track your package, you go to a webpage that shows updates of where your package is, it's usually updated once a day. Tracking your package doesn't affect your delivery.
