Tales of Monkey Island translation information....more than an year later

hello all,
telltale has been deluged with requests for translations of tales of monkey island for all sorts of languages, and your requests are being heard. Currently we are concentrating on releasing the games on schedule, after the games are completed we hope to shift our attention to getting quality and accurate translations available for many languages.
Until then, we cannot legally support any other fan translations due to copyright and liability issues.
Please understand that we want these translations as badly as you do! We'd love to see our fans happy! However, there's only so many hours in a day, so translations (and porting to other consoles, for that matter) is on the agenda for after we complete the season.

Gracias!
Merci!

Takk!
And thank you, for your patience.

Just LOL. I love TT humor.

    Not funny.
At least, not to us, Spanish, Italian, French (etc) people who are starving for Monkey Island on our languages

But if you understand English, why do you want a dubbed version?

    Not that question again!!!

O.K. I'll answer it for the last time:
For my sister, who loves adventure games but is not as fluent as me in English. For my parents, who could enjoy the story but don't know English at all. For many other gamers that don't have the time/resources to learn English...
And, why not, for myself, that although I can read English quite well, when I play games I want to relax and enjoy the game, and struggling with a language that isn't mine spoils the enjoyment.

Anyway, I never said "dubbed" (although I'd like it), but "localized". All I need are translated subtitles.

I wanna gift it to my girlfriend and to my father, and convince some collegues and friends to buy it.

No one here wants to play TOMI in english: my father doesn't know english at all, but he likes Monkey Island and he's upset he can't play the new game; the others know a little english, but it's not sufficient - is very hard to play a dialogue-centered game and undestand it well if it's not your native language - and they are not motivated enough to make the effort of playing in english.

And remember that the (many) people that not understand english, will never post here - so they will not have an official voice at the TT forum.

Aaah, I see. Sorry, I hadn't thought about that. But you're actually quite right! Most friends I know who speak Spanish and don't speak English had to recurr to other "alternatives" to be able to play and understand the games.

¡Queremos "Cuentos de Monkey Island" en español! :D

Do you know if the German version will be available to buy as a download, or only on a dvd? I'm an English speaker but I'd kinda like to play the game again in German. XD

In the August 18 news on this page (on this page in German), there is talk of a PC-DVD to be released on October 26, but no mention of a digital download.

    Someone's in a mean mood today! :D

But, wow, I've only heard about the German version just now! Wow! As much as I hate the "I-have-to-have-everything-dubbed-to-my-mother-tongue" - whining I admit that I'll buy a copy of the German TOMI as well. Sooo curious as to how it will sound!!

What's LeChuck's German voice actor's name again, btw?

Only it will be translated in German? And why can´t we have a translation to spanish?
  • edited October 2010
I've created a topic this evening treating the same thing! xD

Yep, we are a HUGE number of fans that would want to read subtitles in spanish in the game, just that!

"Day of the Tentacle" launched in Spain with translated subtitles and english dubbing and it was a success. People could enjoy this masterpiece.

Do the same with "Monkey Island", please.
