As "Scot" is written with one t less than Doc's "Great Scott!", it would be only fitting to have the t added to the German expression, making it "Großer Schottte!".
Well, hello there... I am new here and a big fan bla bla bla. Now that I have introduced myself as good as I could I can tell you about my experiences with the german translation of TOMI.
First I played the TTG version on steam and I really enjoyed it. Chapter IV totally blew me away and I felt like I was in adventure heaven. Besides the riddles being to easy. (<- proper english? help )
Well you see, I liked it alot. And I can understand english better than talk - so I got all the jokes.
Now I played the german version up until the beginning of chapter V and my feelings are mixed. First of all there are many bugs in the animations which I didn't have in the english steam version. That's totally unnecessary - I don't understand how this could happen.
So, the voices are good. I like them. Even if they only got the original Guybrush voice. LeChuck is very fitting and Murray is almost as good as the original, but not menacing (?) enough.
But - and that's a big BUT - there are many lines just cut off at the end of the sentence and in the first episodes the lipsynch is totally messed up. It's like they never playtested it. What the.... err... heck?
And there are even lines where you can hear Guybrush say something like "The cards... uhm what? ....... The cards are (...)" - which means that some of the soundfiles are not properly cut. Daedalic can not fool me to think that they had any human being test this game. It's so sad.
Overall the translation is okay. Some jokes are completely gone, but most of them still work. But as someone else said in this thread: They were not really creative and that's why there are not as many laughs as in the original.
We germans saw in MI 1,2,3 and 4 that it is possible to make a good translation with jokes that also work in german. But they messed it up. I still enjoy it, but I feel ripped off. All in all I paid more for ToMI in german than for the original and it is bugged and the translation is soulless. It's like a grammatically correct google translation. It was not really worth the money.
Next time I will just buy the TTG original. Just as I did with all Sam and Max seasons. The german version of season 2 is HORRIBLE, as I saw in some videos. No original voice actors from season 1 or hit the road - it's so bad.... that it's... BAD!
I have read these forums since ToMI came out and today was the day to break the silence and sit down here, talk with great people and.... dang I have no time to be polite and nice - so see ya
