Buying it for a friend

Does anyone know how that works?
I noticed a "Im buying this for a friend" option in the shopping cart, but it didnt ask me for a username or his email.
Will it ask that after i submitted the order or send me a link to give to him, or is that for "physical" purchases only, and not for downloads?

I hope someone knows, because i think this game would make a perfect gift.

After buying it, it appears at the top of "my purchases" where you can select an E-mail adress to send it off to.
