Getting back to Arthur McFly's house?

I gave Einstein the hat to lead me to his house, but I didn't have the tape recorder so there wasn't anything I could do. Now I have the tape recorder, but when I give the hat to Einstein, Marty just says "This is my grandfather's hat!" and won't go back to Arthur's house. How do I get back to him?

    Just walk back to Artie's house. Walk to the edge of the screen in the direction they were going in; Marty can find his own way from there.

    To be more specific in case you forgot - walk left past Doc's jail cell.
