June somethingth, Highschool junior here, and then I'm up north for a good chunk of the summer. This kinda sucks
  • edited May 2011
Yeah, damn. Looks like we're locked into this schedule for a while then. I may have a solution for the Friday games lack of players, but we'd have to switch campaigns for a bit if that's cool with the group.
  • edited May 2011
If you need more players, I'd be happy to join, not this Friday, but next. My semester is almost over and I'll have tons of free time once it is.

Don't know anything about how the game works, but I could totally be a decoy! Or maybe the plucky comic relief!
  • edited May 2011
We'll give you a crash course Alcoremortis, or if you want we could talk before the game and I could give you a run down of how things work.
  • edited May 2011
Cool! Moment my finals are done, we can hash it out.
  • edited May 2011
Awesome, my skype name's vgfanatic06, just add me to your contacts. What day would work best for you? I'm free Tuesday evening, Thursday evening and all day Wednesday GMT.
  • edited May 2011
Well, my last final will be over next Thursday, May 12. So maybe that evening. Which...would probably be around noonish for me if I'm getting my timezones correct. And my Skype is alcoremortis, by the way, so as not to confuse anyone unduly.

Awesome, I added you to my contacts. Just a bit of a warning though, you're going to be introduced in a bit of a trial by fire (As you'll see below. Don't worry, I'll help you with character creation).

Guys, after hearing from some of our group, I hope you don't mind but we're going to switch campaigns for a bit. Firstly I'd feel bad playing out the end of the campaign when there are players who can't be here and would like to, and also we need more players if we don't want any more character deaths.

Therefore, I'd like to propose we jump to the epic campaign-ette I mentioned a bit earlier. It's not going to be terribly long, and it's going to be much more roleplay heavy than combat heavy, so it'll be a bit of a shift.

If you're all okay with that, there's pretty much four limitations on character creation:

    - Levels are between 19-21
    - No psionics
    - Character must be a Dragon, Dragonblood subtype (Half Dragon, Dragonborn, Dragon Disciple, Spellscale, Dragon Shaman, Dragonpact holder etc.) or serve a a Draconic Deity (Dracolytes, Platinum Knights, Talon of Tiamat, etc.).
    - If playing a Dragon, the maximum age is Mature Adult unless you are playing a Force or Prismatic Dragon. Then the age cap is Young.

There are four books which are going to be incredibly useful to you: Dragon Magic, The Draconomicon, The Epic Level Handbook and Races of the Dragon (sorry about the 4shared link, I couldn't find it on scribd). There are also the Gem Dragons, which almost all are listed in Monster Manual II, if you want to play an Obsidian Dragon, WotC has their stats here.

There is also a Dragon Character Generator if you don't want to create a dragon from scratch (which does take a while).

Given this is going to be more roleplay based than our current campaign, if everyone could at least get me an idea of what you're playing by Friday afternoon GMT, that would be great.

EDIT: Also, you will have access to a hoard equal to your character level (CR 19, CR 20, CR 21 depending). You all have 200,000 GP to burn on magic items listed in the DMG, Draconomicon and Dragon Magic Texts, but should you need more, you may subtract funds from your hoard to do so. Remember that not all Dragons would even consider pulling cash from their hoard. If you're playing a nondragon who worships a draconic Deity, we'll say you'll have access to a treasury of the same worth as the hoard equal to your level.

EDIT: Here's a good page for randomly generating your treasure. A CR 19 hoard is worth 183, 000 GP, a CR 20 hoard is worth 240,000 and a CR 21 is worth 261,000.

I've been meaning to reply to this for the last day and a half. Making a dragon character sounds pretty daunting, but the campaign sounds like nine kinds of awesome.
  • edited May 2011
I always try to make things ridiculously awesome, mainly because I approach DMing with one question in mind. "Okay, what would I, as a player, want to get to do in this campaign?"

My first character was a dragon, so if you want, I can help you make your character. I'm pretty good at Draconic characters at this point. I'm on Skype atm, and I'll try to be available as much as possible before the campaign gets going.
  • edited May 2011
I've been a little busy recently so haven't started on creating a character yet. Don't fret though as I've set basically tomorrow to read up and make one.
  • edited May 2011
My computer has been arguing with me a lot.
  • edited May 2011
As in, it doesn't want to work or, it's actively rejecting your choices?
  • edited May 2011
Doesn't want to work. it keeps freezing when I try to do this.
  • edited May 2011
Huh. On the Dragon Character creator? Dude, if you keep having a problem, get on Skype. I'll help you make one from scratch. It'll take a bit more time, but it may be faster.
  • edited May 2011
I'm actually having problems with the books. The keep freezing when I try to do anything, but the creator thing is fine
  • edited May 2011
Huh, that's weird. I generally don't have a problem with Scribd....
  • edited May 2011
Here's 4shared links for the ones linked on Scribd.
    Dragon Magic
    Draconomicon
    Epic Level Handbook

Well I think I've got a general grasp on the character I want to play, but I'm not sure how good I am at actually role-playing a human character never mind a dragon. Using that character generator I've managed to make a character or at least the shell of one (though I need to look at what all the different feats do) but now I'm wondering if this character works, if I'm getting this right. Hell I can't even think of a name, especially one that fits dragon naming conventions (which I'm not sure of anyway) let alone a history/background for this guy. Dragon. Thingy.
  • edited May 2011
I sort of did you guys a disservice in not having you roleplay a lot in the last campaign, quite honestly.

I'm in the middle DMing session, but I'll be on around 11 helping Alecomortis with her char, so if you want to hash this out over Skype we can do that.
  • edited May 2011
Right so my character has been generated. Now all I need to do is create a back story, a hoard and I guess a lair to put the hoard in. Plus I need to learn how to role play a crystal dragon rogue. And I don't doubt there's more things that I've forgotten. Gonna have to do a fair bit more research tomorrow. Just as well I've got nothing to do other than sign on at the job centre (bah).
  • edited May 2011
I'll be online all tomorrow, if you want to hash things out over Skype, I'm more than willing to help, just give me a ring.
  • edited May 2011
I'll see how I get on.
  • edited May 2011
Woo, up at almost 5 am, trying to figure out how the hell to make a rogue dragon!
  • edited May 2011
So much for a quiet day. Keep getting interrupted by parents, my brother, bloody door to door sales men and other such things. All of which has meant that I've not done as much research and work into my character as I would have liked, not nearly as much. Gonna see if I can knock up a quick back story that could be expanded upon at a later date. That is if I don't get any more visitors.
  • edited May 2011
Yeah...I was up until 6:30 just trying to get through the character generator (which I was doing twice at the same time because I'm at a stalemate between two types of dragon), and I still haven't had a chance to put any thought into equipment, names, or backstories. And I've only been up for about half an hour.

Hey guys a couple of clerical updates:

I put the planar handbook in the dropbox 3.5e books. It's pretty useful for planar hopping, so take a look if you think it will be useful.

Also, just to bring it up: Epic level prestige classes. There aren't that many of them and they're geared towards spellcasters for the most part. Most of prestige classes in the DMG (Arcane Archer, Assassin, Blackguard, Dwarven Defender, Loremaster and Shadow Dancer) continue to epic level. On top of that, you have the new prestige classes in the Epic Level Handbook and these from the supplements:

    - Diabolist (Book of Vile Darkness)
    - Holy Liberator (Defenders of the Faith)
    - Hospitaler (Defenders of the Faith)
    - Templar (Defenders of the Faith)
    - Warpriest (Defenders of the Faith)
    - Stormlord (Complete Divine)
    - Extreme Explorer (Eberron Campaign Setting)
    - Dreadmaster (Faiths and Pantheons)
    - Dweomerkeepr (Faiths and Pantheons)
    - Sword Dancer (Faiths and Pantheons)
    - Netherese Arcanist (Player's guide to Faerûn)
    - Spellfire Hierophant (Player's guide to Faerûn)

I'm basically treating the dragon specific prestige classes (Draconomicon) as epics mainly because of the stat progression, so take a look at those as well. We won't be levelling 'til next session, but I think my character's the only one who started at 21, so you all have 10 levels to raise a prestige class, so it's worth thinking about.

EDIT: Just finished fleshing out the first half of the campaign, and for that portion of the campaign, the level cap will be at 30 (Which you all will hit at that point). After we finish that you'll be able to level to lvl 40. To put this in perspective; there are only 4 or 5 gods in Idrin who are at that power level. So yeah.
  • edited May 2011
Gotta take a look at these prestige classes, see what sounds good for me. I guess I need you to let me have access to the dropbox folder with all these 3.5e books in them. Downloaded a fair few already so might as well fill me boots as it were.

I can't wait until my finals are over so I can get started with making a dragon. Just from what I've read here it looks awesome!
  • edited May 2011
Once you manage to wrap your head around it, it's pretty awesome.

Once you manage to wrap your head around it, it's pretty awesome.

Well, I'll probably be getting started on Thursday, after my last final. I don't know if my brain will still be functioning by then, but I will have a dragon. I will.

Until you have your first battle and you can't do any damage that isn't resisted or just not enough to actually make a slightest bit of difference to the enemies HP (damn you damage reduction, or more specifically, monsters with damage reduction). Still, if we weren't a load of (theoretically) bad assed dragons then we'd have probably been killed in the first round of attacks.

Well, I'm totally willing to help you out the best I can over Skype that night. Together, we'll make you something badass.

Ah, yeah, this is true, but the payoff of having the thing punted by a dragon the size of a room was totally worth it.

True enough! Man I love Friday nights, almost always something memorable happens.

Of course, I should mention, my dragon isn't even finished yet. I played last week with a totally half-done character. I still need to equip my human form with weapons and stuff. My character was finished enough that most of the game was great, but it kinda sucked when we got into battle and I had to spend a turn turning back into a dragon because I had no attacks as a human.

Corruptbiggins, I added you and whoever else's e-mails I had to the 3.5e books. Everything you should need is in there and more. We have a dragon magazine with Time Dragons in the Dropbox. TIME DRAGONS.

Yeah, I have some recommendations for you as a knifethrower Guru, if you want to get on sometime before next weeks game, I'll help you out with all of that.

Welcome to Epic Level, where walking through hell is a Sunday Afternoon stroll but anything you fight wears your buttocks like a hat.

That would be awesome, especially as I'm not finding much info about throwing knives. I'm sort of trying to spend more of my time at the computer on Skype, otherwise you can try PMing me whenever is good for you.
