Getting behind the Police Car

I'm at the part in the game where Kid has Edna held hostage and I need to distract Kid long enough for Edna to deal with Kid. The hint is telling me to go behind the Police car but I'm not sure how.

    There's three places you can be at this stage.

    Behind the police car, behind the trash cans, and behind the confiscated kegs of booze.

    From the car (where you start), you can only get to the cans. From the cans you can get to either.

    What I did: Move to the barrels. Talk to Tannen. Then move back to the police car (click on trash can, then click on police car) and talk to Tannen about three times until Edna is free.

    How about the knife fight afterwards. I don't have a clue what I'm supposed to do? All I can do is running around the car.

    Biff lunges at you, hit the closing thing that I don't remember what it's called.

    So I just missed the correct timing for over 15 minutes…
