I could have changed the cards by patching the 'cards.dll' file (all the cards and backgrounds are bitmaps). But I didn't want to manually change 53 bitmaps (52 cards + the background).
Also I wouldn't recomend doing that unless you really know what you are doing. I will not give any indications on how to do it but you can use google on "changing exe resources" and "XN Resource Editor".
PS: The bitmaps are 71 x 96 pixels, here is a sample background
