Is Gerry's Other Daughter Sarah Harding?

edited July 2012 in Jurassic Park
Ok, in the game Gerry mentions he has an older daughter named Sarah and since his last name is Harding so is hers. So is she THE Sarah Harding from The Lost World? I mean, i would fit. Gerry mentions how shes a couples years older than Jess, probably in her 20's and in TLW she's in her 20's. I'm pretty sure that she is the Sarah Harding from TLW i just wanted a Telltale Confirmation for good measure :)

It is indeed Sarah Harding. ;)

It'd be too much of a horrible coincidence. People were expecting this for years now. Even in the novel Sarah mentions that her father was a veterinarian, which prompts Malcolm to kinda seem surprised by this news and thus hinting the same.

it said so in the game as well.....

The scene in which Jess asks about Sarah is a hint for the sake of a hint. If there was an official confirmation, this wouldn't be a hint any more. ;)

In other words, TTG suggests this correlation in exactly the same way the Lost World movie did.

I have to point out that this is not discussed in the film, but in the novel. In the films, the connection is not made: in the films' universe, there's no way of knowing if Gerry Harding and Sarah Harding are truly related, unless specified in a future installment. (Which seems doubtful.)

How common is the name Harding!? There's your answer...

The reference is a nice little easter egg that hardcore fans of the books and movies will immediately pick up on, but other people would gloss over without a thought.

It's still open for interpretation though, as the name Sarah when Jess speaks it in the game is spelled without an H (captions turned on, for the win.) And the character of Harding is different in the book, the movie, and the game: even if Sarah Harding is his daughter in the book and/or game, the movies don't necessarily follow suit.

Actually, later on Sarah is mentioned again by Gerry, and this time there is an H at the end. :p

Mispelling error in subtitles, simple mistake. If your lucky, you'll get to see deleted dialogue in games this way.

"It's time to bake that cake we made last night." - Not from this game but one that I love. Only seen in subtitles.

Why would Sarah Harding marry Grant? She didn't know him.

How common is the name Harding!? There's your answer...

I dug up some more information for you guys (sorry I'm late with this: haven't been on this board in ages!) See the post I created for www.jplegacy.org below:

Gerry Harding is indeed Sarah Harding's father: in the novel The Lost World: Jurassic Park, she and Malcolm discuss him very briefly. Here's the text from the novel:
"How come you know all this anatomy?" Kelly said.
"I have to. I spend a lot of time looking through the scat of predators," she said. "Examining pieces of bones that are left behind, and figuring out which animals have been eaten. To do that, you have to know comparative anatomy very well." She moved the transducer along the baby's leg. "And my father was a vet."
Malcolm looked up sharply. "Your father was a vet?"
"Yes. At the San Diego Zoo. He was a bird specialist. But I don't see... can you magnify this?"
Arby flicked a switch. The image doubled in size.

The Lost World: Jurassic Park (page 670, Knopf, Borzoi Books - Barnes and Noble edition Jurassic Park/ The Lost World)

And the text from Jurassic Park, on Gerry Harding's career:
Before coming to the park, Harding had been the chief of veterinary medicine at the San Diego Zoo, and the world's leading expert on avian care. He flew all over the world, consulting with zoos in Europe, India and Japan on the care of exotic birds. He'd had no interest when this peculiar little man showed up, offering him a position in a private game park. But when he learned what Hammond had done... It was impossible to pass up. Harding had an academic bent, and the prospect of writing the first Textbook of Veterinary Internal Medicine: Diseases of Dinosauria was compelling. In the late twentieth century, veterinary medicine was scientifically advanced: the best zoos ran clinics little different from hospitals. New textbooks were merely refinements of old. For a world-class practitioner, there were no worlds left to conquer. But to be the first to care for a whole new class of animals: that was something!

Jurassic Park (page 246, Knopf, Borzoi Books - Barnes and Noble edition Jurassic Park/ The Lost World)

Michael Crichton confirmed Gerry and Sarah Harding being father and daughter in an interview as well (though I've never read the specific interview myself), but the above texts carry enough evidence in themselves. The game's developers put it in their game to link the stories between the Jurassic Park films, and as a nice little easter egg for the fans.

but we SAW Gerry Harding in the original movie and he looked nothing like Harding in the game. Remember, Ellie (Laura Dern) stays with him when they found sick Triceratop. also, going with the timeframe of the game's first episode, and with the overall family theme of the game, it would make sense if Gerry had his daughter with him in the field.

plus, as far as i know, Harding from novels worked at San Diego Zoo, while at the end of the game he says he should go back to work for Dallas Zoo.

so, yeah, it is an easter egg alright, but kinda poorly thought out.

TellTale has mentioned on more than one occasion that they made Gerry younger than he was in the film. He also mentions taking Jess back to the center at the end of the tutorial. I can't recall his exact dialog, but it is something to do with the sick Triceratops.

It has been stated already very often but the main reason for the different appearance of Dr. Gerry Harding was a simple copyright issue:
The official JP-license from Universal - which TTG bought for their game - didn't include the original appearance of the actors and brands that were used in the film. That's also the reason why there aren't any Ford Explorers and Jeep Wranglers in this game (And why Nedry's face wasn't shown).

Plus actually TTG thought that the optics of Gerry L. Molen (which played Gerry Harding in the movie) wasn't attractive enough for gamers to play as him.

PS: But TTG bought the license from Barbasol to use the original can in the game.
