I'm not sure if this is exactly artsy and mature, though I would like to talk about theatre, specifically musicals. Would that be ok?

    Yes.

Musicals are quite alright, I'm sure.

For example, West Side Story. A good retelling of Romeo and Juliette.

Though this is a fantastic painting, did you know that the likely reason why the stars have auras is because Van Gogh had eye problems (perhaps cataracts) which caused him to actually see the auras he was painting?

I actually did. My mother has the same thing and also paint that way. Leads to beautiful works of art.

That's fascinating, I wasn't actually aware of that. It doesn't actually sound that bad to see the world through such eyes but I'm probably being naive.

I se auras, too, especially under weird lightning conditions. None of that hippy "spirit aura" stuff- its a side effect of my eye condition. I've never actually painted what I REALLY see before. Maybe I should give it a try...

I don't necessarily think that it matters, provided one discusses it in a mature manner.

Does anybody remember Jim Henson's Storyteller's series?

I know of it... but I do not remember it from when I was a kid... I would have been 8 or so.

If you're talking about the UK version (with John Hurt) then; oh god yes! I adored that series as a child. I owned all of the episodes on VHS and used to watch them a couple of times a week. My favourite episodes were the one with the devils, the one with the 'stone soup' and the one with the boy and the giant.

Unfortunately there's no DVDs available but I managed to find a few episodes on YouTube last year and they're even better than I remembered.

Everyone NEEDS to watch this show. It's unbelievably awesome. I wish I knew where I could watch the whole series online.

Though it's hardly surprising that the game developers didn't include the elements of rape in the game!

Hehe late reply but just noticed this but you can get raped on the game as one of the "game overs". If you are Ellen and do nothing in the elevator isnted of fight back it shows her getting attacked by the Yellow rapist then your back in AM's cage.

I didn't fail at that part of the game, so I never got to see that (which may be a good thing).

In the original short story, Ellen is somewhat willingly raped by the other remaining humans on a regular basis, in order to relieve their sexual tension. One of the men resents her for it because even though she's being "raped", she seems to take great pleasure from it (particularly from the ape like Benny and his well endowed manhood).

It's a little bit like the rape scene in the film 'Straw Dogs'. It's apparently rape but the female hardly puts up a fight and visibly enjoys the experience. It's an interesting comment on how one can take a perverse pleasure from abuse and how the line between fear and enjoyment can become blurred.
