I dont' have a file in that folder, but I still have the save bug. What now?

wow, so I hit a puzzle I couldn't immediately solve, and I had to pee, so I decided to exit game after about an hour into playing...at the Pharmacy in Macon rescuing Glen. Anyway..hit escape to exit, get menu and hitting any buttons simply restarted the game. Where has my saves gone? I restarted, but my only choice is one save that starts me a the beginning again?

I looked in the folder and all my saved games are there, ten of them. I should be able to start where I left off, no?

    wth?

Just another person saying that this worked. Thanks so much! Annoying that you have to do it every time you want to play, but at least it's a simple fix. :)

Still found nothing to help, might just have to redo Episode 3 and HOPE it works this time.

P.S. Seriously TellTale why when using the ingame downloader for getting new episodes is ALL the data being saved in the Documents folder. This presents all sorts of problems for backups and people who use multiple drives. These are common complaints whenever a game is released with this sort of data handling. I would of thought your developers would actually think such things through. It is also different to how Steam is handling the files... Why didn't you just stick to 1 method!

Thanks for this fix, it worked great for me.

Have they released a single patch fix between episode releases? I've never noticed. Telltale needs to quit being a complete letdown when it comes to patching. This fix couldn't possibly take them more than hour to create, package and submit to Steam.

Same for me. I don't have a prefs.prop in my Steam\steamapps\common\the walking dead\Pack\default folder. Tried the fix and it doesn't work for me either.

I do not know if anyone has noticed this, but if you loose access to your save you need to go into C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\Documents\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead, copy all your saves into a new folder.

From there, start up the game and play till the game autosaves (I actually played a little longer to make sure the game had saved.) Next you need to go back to C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\Documents\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead and sort the files by date modified. What is happening is the game will save your new progress as one of the older save files, thus the game doesn't pickup on what save to start up as; it is messed up I know.

You need to then go back into that new folder I told you to create earlier and rename your last save as what ever is listed as the most recent save in the save folder. I.E. Your last save was save_18.save and when you restarted the game it saved it as save_8.save You would need to change the save_18.save to save_8.save and paste it into the C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\Documents\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead.

This is what I did in order to make the game save.

Bumping this since this has helped me out a lot.

Any other solutions out there? I've tried everything I can in this thread and it's still not reading my save files. They're all there (though the first few have been overwritten by new autosaves in my attempt to fix it), but it's still not reading my old game saves. I really want to play through episode 5 with all of my decisions. I've invested way too many hours in to this experience to start over with default decisions.

I should note that this is the first time I've tried playing the game since a fresh install of the retail release of Windows 8 (it worked perfectly in the consumer preview build).

I tried this and in the process inadvertently deleted/lost all save games. So yeah.... any tips or do I have to replay everything from the start?

Copying the prefs.prop to multiple places is actually one of the things that will break the savegames. Therefore I think this before someone else thinks it's a good idea.
