No Poster / extras with season1 DVD in Sweden

edited January 2011 in Sam & Max
I bought the SamnMax DVD today (in Stockholm - Sweden) and was gutted to open it and find no bonus material as promised on the box - so no Steve Purcell goodies. I took it back to the shop (GAME) and got a refund - then tried in EB Games instead - and it was the same story there - none of their copies come with the bonus material - although it is promised on the DVD casing. As its the 1st day of the box versions release in Sweden - perhaps the publishers messed up in some way. What I'd like to know is if there is any intention of launching the game in Europe (or Sweden) with the Bonus material included - if so - how where do I get it from? - and wonder if any other Europeans have similar problems - if so feel free to comment here - so as we can communicate this to Telltale et all.

We don't control the packaging of the retail version, unfortunately. That's a question for JoWood, the publisher :(

I'm trying to get more info about this. We weren't even aware there was a Swedish version of the game. (Or is it the English version that you purchased in Sweden?)

To be clear - are the bonus materials (i.e. trailers, behind the scenes video, concept art, etc.) included on the DVD? The only physical thing that should be in there is a poster. I know the box makes it look like there are sheets of concept art included, but those are electronic on the disc. Please let us know if it's just the poster that's missing or if you don't have any extras on the DVD, either.

I'm also in this situation, but I'm in the UK. Bought the DVD from Play.com (this one). So, the item description (and the blurb on the back of the box) state that there's a 'full sized poster' included...but it's not. All I have is the game disc and manual.

I believe that everything else (concept artwork, trailers etc) is included on the disc, correct? I'll have a look tonight and make sure it is there...

i looked at JoWood's site and in the features on their site and the poster is not there http://www.jowood.com/?lang=en&site=2&gameid=sammax

i believe this is due to laziness i suggest emailing jowood and complaining due to false advertising contact page

I'd say some of the worldwide online stores have simply done a cut&paste job from the american listings

But even the packaging states there's a poster included!

I may complain to JoWood and see what they've got to say (and possibly try and send it back to Play.com). It's not really a big deal, but still, gotta think about principle!

Just out of interest, where could I purchase the 'proper' version? I've only just ordered some stuff from Telltale (signed print & teeshirt) and don't really want to pay the shipping charges again...are there any UK suppliers that stock the correct version of the game (ie, different packaging, poster included etc)?

you could try and cancel your order by contacting support if it hasn't been dispatched no uk suppliers stock telltales version but it is worth it and you could order the poster print as well if you particularly want a print

Screw it - I'll just leave it for the moment. I'll contact JoWood though, give them an earfull about false advertising and explain the basics of proofing cover designs/blurb text (something which they obviously don't do/understand)!! :D

My order has already shipped so it's too late. I reckon I'll just wait until Season 2 is released in physical format, then just order both seasons direct from Telltale.

...but the telltale version does not include a poster as well. just to clarify that fact.

Emily's talking about the american retail version which should apply to all countries but for some reason doesn't

hmm, it didn't clarify anything. only more confusion, sorry. the season one disc telltale sells at their store is a different version than the official retail by jowood.
the telltale version consists of a dvd with the six episodes and some bonus content, a two-page booklet and the dvd case itself. the retail version has bonus content on the disc as well, but different from the telltale disc and is supposed to have a poster included. right?
the retail has a 3d-rendered artwork on the cover, whille the telltale disc features a more stylish image drawn by steve purcell.

Righty...it all makes sense now. I have got my monday head attached though, so the brain isn't fully operational at the moment!

So, it seems that the American (DreamCatcher) version includes the poster, whereas the European (JoWood) version doesn't. Well, like I said, I'll check the disc when I get home from work and make sure all the bonus content is there, then send a complaint email to JoWood...

I suggest everyone else in this situation does the same. The more complaints JoWood get, the more inclined they'll be to sort it out (either by offering the poster, FOC to anyone that didn't receive it (pretty unlikely), or reprint the box art and remove the 'includes full-sized poster' comment).

I was talking about JoWood's version, which should contain a poster inside the DVD case. The rest of the extras -- including the concept art -- should be on the DVD.

I have been in touch with JoWood and learned that an early production run of the European release did not include the poster. This was accidental and they are going to rectify it for the customers who were affected. When I hear back from them who you guys should contact about the missing poster, I will post the information here.

Anyone who's missing a poster from their retail purchase can contact Markus Reutner at JoWood (mreutner@jowood.com) to ask for a replacement.
  • edited September 2007
Just to clarify - from my original post - I was referring to the english language version that is on sale in Sweden (by Jowood) - which is missing the poster - and any other extras that there maybe - all it contained was a manual and a DVD - I purchased it from GAME - and took it back for refund when I realised - I then checked at EB Games - and theirs were also missing all extras / poster, I told GAME to contact me if they get in a new version with a poster - so I'm waiting to hear back - I also asked them to contact Jowood - to apply more pressure...

And to clarify on my end - the only physical thing that should be inside the DVD case is a poster (plus the DVD and the manual, of course). The rest of the extras are on the DVD. ;)

It sounded like just the first production run had this problem, but it might be worth contacting Markus at JoWood to ask when they expect stores to have the version with the poster in stock.

hi! I'm also from Sweden. I saw the season 1 dvd in a Ebgames store and as I understand it the Swedish version is packaged in a DVD case and not that nice big box?

Consider yourself lucky. I find those big boxes a bummer to store, as my games rack only holds DVD cases.

It does, I saw it in Gamestation on Monday.

The UK version is in a DVD case. One of the other languages might be in a box, but I can't remember which. The packaging for all of JoWood's releases is pretty similar to the North American packaging - same general design - the main difference is the fact that it's a DVD case.

I got the German version on monday, it is in a box, and had a poster inside.
  • edited September 2007
that's quite nice. usually german version are the lamest of them all, packaging-wise..or so it seems.
  • edited September 2007
Damn, I was wrong. Ignore my other post about it being in a box rather than a DVD case.

I checked in Gamestation again earlier and it's DVD Cased. I try to spend as little time in that shop as possible so I didn't really get a proper look first time round >_<.

They're both owned by the same company now though =/

Apparently all of the versions except the German had the poster left out accidentally. JoWood's working on getting this resolved. In the meantime, if you bought it and have no poster, email Markus at the address I posted earlier in this thread.

the best uk chain games shop was special reserve but they went bust a few years back pity they were the only ones to do good prices all the time and one of the first to stock pre-owned games

    DAMN YOU GAME
  • edited September 2007
Not sure if it's basically the same chain or not as Game, but I thought it was nice when they opened an EBgames close to where I lived. Still pop in when I'm home for a visit, though usually that ends up more as good for a laugh than looking for something good to buy. Not sure about other places, but here they're usually the last ones to get a game, and will usually have the highest price too...well hold that...ElGiganten would hold that one I think. Last time I visited they still had Magic & Mayhem at $60, a game which I purchased years ago in clearance at $6

Game bought Electronics Boutique and I don't think EB exist anymore as a result... other than that. Up here we have Game station as well, who tend to specialise in second hand console games. We also have CEX but they're always overpriced (£30 for a preowned DS game? HAH surely you jest!)

Anyone else feel bad for Emily? She's been representing this excellent product that works perfectly but now she has to deal with damaged goods and other problems due to third parties?

Has anyone of you received any reply from JoWood and Markus about the missing poster?
I've been waiting for an answer since monday.

EDIT: Looks like my poster is on the way. :-)
  • edited September 2007
Same deal with the version sold in Denmark: DVD case with no poster although it's promised in the back. I just made a complaint.
  • edited September 2007
I've had my UK retail version for about a week now and have had no reply from JoWooD regarding my replacement poster (as it was missing) and all (not even a notification of receiving my message) so I don't suppose theres anything you guys could do, or will I have to keep sending emails to JoWood?
  • edited September 2007
Phew, thought it was just me.
I too didn't get the poster and have just now emailed JoWood.

I didn't receive a reply either. I have received nothing in the post, nor a confirmation email. To anyone who received their posters after emailing JoWood, did you get something? If not, I shall email again. And again. And again! ;)
