How I fixed my Episode 4 download problem.

When you manually download the game files (see sticky thread http://www.telltalegames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=33233) and just put them into your
\Users\***\Documents\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead\SyncFs\Data\**episode**

folder, the game will maybe launch but immediately crash. What you have to do is to copy the files into the game folder here, too:
Program Files\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead\GameData\Pack\***episode**

If there is no episode folder in your game directory, create it, Episode 4 would be:
Program Files\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead\GameData\Pack\WalkingDead104

Simply have those files twice at both locations to be safe. It works for me.

Telltale is throwing dirt at us paying customers every time they release a new episode. Shame on you, Telltale management, I have never seen a worse combination of bad support, code and release policies. If it wasn't for Kirkmann's great storytelling and my love for the WD universe, I wouldn't lose one more second with your games.

    Thanks

I'll try this in a bit i guess.. shame it takes more time repairing each episode's flaw ourselves then an actual episode lasts. I've been a longtime TT fan but this latest adventure took me to the point I won't be that eager to throw my wallet at them anymore that fast.

Ah well.. again thanks for the info Aloof

Didn't work for me. Since I put the 9 files in both folders, it now says that ep4 is installed on the download content screen, but when I go to the play screen, and click play, i get a black screen with an arrow that I can't move, and it just hangs there.

I'm frustrated that the first 3 episodes installed without any issues. There is an absolute problem at Telltale's end, and I assumed that they would fix it today. I would like to play the game that I paid for.

Why will episode 4 not install?

Im nervous about trying manually downloading this and frustrated that this is what im having to do. Thanks for the instructions...
You are right Cruisix it does seem to take more time reporting errors/troubles each episode release than the actual episode lasts

This is exactly what happened to me before I had the walkingdead104 folder in both locations. Then it worked. Weird!

I had the same problem with the black screen but after I startet the game a second time it opened in a window, I had to type in my username and the password, like when you start the game the very first time.

Now I can start Episode 4 and play it with no problems, but all my old savegames are deleted :-( I dont know why, they are shown in the right directory.

That sounds like the game reset your settings when it failed to start.

You might be able to save your savegames, if you have a recent Windows version and haven't disabled system protection.

First, make a backup copy of:
    %USERPROFILE%\Documents\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead
So you don't lose any more than you already have.

Now right click the file "prefs.prop" in the folder mentioned above selecting "properties", and "restore previous version". Choose the latest version before the failed start.
Try if you can start the game and your savegames are back.

If you could restore, but the savegames aren't working, you can try restoring the entire "The Walking dead" folder. This would however make episode 4 unavailable again.

Once you have access to your savegames, make another backup and keep it in a save place.

Thanks Aloof! Your method worked! I just bought this game yesterday and could not get EP2-4 to download AT ALL but now it's fine with this work around.
