Please help.

I have The Walking Dead Episodes 1,2,3,4.

I got episodes 1, 2 and 3 all at one time and played all the way through with no problems.

When I downloaded and installed episode 4 and started the game, all of my saves were gone in the game.

I found the save folder located in c/documents/TellTale Games so the save files were still there, but the game was not recognizing them.

All in all, I've spent over 10 hours trying to get this to work.

I have tried every so called fix, and nothing works.

I've got 37 save files that are numbered 0 through 36.

This is an example of how they are labeled.

save_31.save

And I have a few prefs.prop files that are various sizes.

I don't even know what a prefs.prop file is.

Is it possible to continue where I left off if I have the save files, but not the original prefs.prop file that went with it?

I have tried so many things so many times I don't know which prefs.prop file is the original and none of them work with my saves.

I emailed telltale a week ago but they refuse to respond.

Please help.

    There is still hope.
I summarized some ways of restoring lost savegames here.

Like I said, I tried that; and it doesn't work.

Spent 2 hours just on that, and it did not work.

That are the only ways i know of recovering savegames. They are indeed tied to the prefs.prop, which is the file that stores the games settings too.

Can you please be more specific on what happened when you tried each fix?
Maybe then we can find a way to make it work.

Depending on what prefs.prop file I use, the game either opens up in a windowed mode in 640x480 resolution, or it opens up regularly.

Regardless of what prefs.prop file I use, none of them make the game recognize any of the 37 save files in the folder.

Okay, let's do this one by one.
What happened when you tried the "restore previous version" method?

    I click each folder.

Some of them have previous versions, some of them do not.

If I find a previous version I put it in the game folder that the game uses which for me is

    c/users/Jeremy/documents/Telltale Games/The Walking Dead

I then start the game, and get the same result.

Depending on what prefs.prof file it is, it sometimes opens up in windows mode with no preferences saved, and sometimes it opens up normal with my preferences, but not recognizing any of the saves.

Like I said earlier I have 37 save files that are labeled 0-37.

    I have 6 different prefs.prop files in three different sizes.2.13 kb, 6.22kb, and 8.23kb.

No matter which prefs.prop file I use, what folder I put it in they don't work.

    Restoring previous versions didn't work.

Uninstalling the game, and then re installing it didn't work.

I also tried starting over from the beginning and making it to the first save point and then exiting the game and replacing the files in the folder with my old saves and that didn't work.

I know my save files are fine, but like I said before as far as my prefs.prop file goes, I don't know if any of the ones that I have now, is the original one that went with the saves.

I think the one that is 8.23kb might be the original, but I don't know for sure.

I tried the time stamp thing, but that didn't seem to work either, so I am honestly at a loss.

    Edit-

The Walking Dead folder in TellTale Games has 37 save files named from 0-36.

    1 prefs.prop file.

A SyncFs folder that when I open has 3 additional folders.

    Data Meta and Temp

All 3 of these folders are empty.

Did you also try "restore previous version" on the entire "The Walking Dead" folder, instead of just on the prefs.prop?

Nothing pops up for any of the prefs.prop files.

The only previous versions that I was able to find was for some of the other The Walking Dead folders.

I just took a deeper look at the savegame exchange/timestamp manipulate workaround.
I was only able to recover my latest savegame from the latest (by date) savefile. I could not recover the other saveslots that way. It might work using some other savefile for that slot, but it's not trivial to find out which one.
It is definitely a last resort, if there's no backup and nothing else works.

One important thing to notice is that the game still shows the information of the new savegame, even if you switched it correctly. You have to continue the game to see if it worked.
Also make sure the new savegame is from the same episode as the old one, and the timestamps are exactly the same.

Maybe you can get it working, giving it another try. It's not as easy as recovering a backup though.
