Walking Dead problems with Windows 8

Walking Dead will not launch with an Xbox controller plugged in.

It will run without the controller attached, but mouse lag makes it unplayable.

Having got the game up and running an Xbox controller can be plugged in but said controller will not work.

My pc meets all requirements, is running Windows 8 Pro with Media Center 64-bit, with NVIDIA GeForce GT 630M with latest driver.

Please advise.

Edit: #16 says don't let the site run their scan software.
