I bought the game last night, played episode one, than tried to launch it today and it wont boot up.
when i try to launch it it says: "steam is preparing to launch walking dead" for 2 seconds before dissapearing and then...nothing. i tried checking integrity, reinstalling the game, and launching it as an admin and nothing has changed.

If you navigate to your Documents\Telltale Games directory and move the Walking Dead folder to another location, can you launch the game? If so, then there may be an issue with your prefs file being corrupted. If this is the case, you will need to delete this folder. Unfortunately this will also remove your save games as the prefs file is linked directly to them.

I too am unable to play it. I even tried the unplugging the controller, deleting all the files, reinstalling, etc. No luck. My specs should more than be able to handle it.

I'm having the same issue. I've just updated from Win7 to Win8Pro and had to do a hard install (i.e. Install OS to a clean hard drive.). I reinstalled my Walking Dead and it showed my progress, but wouldn't load. Reinstalled again, now it shows zero hours played and still won't install.

In looking at My Documents/Telltale Games/The Walking Dead files. My saves are there, but nothing in the SyncFs file and subfiles. In looking at the backup copy, these files, SyncFs and subfiles, were empty before the upgrade to Win8Pron anyway.

Renamed the file Telltale Games to Telltale Games (old) and the game still won't launch.

Unfortunately we do not currently support the Windows 8 platform. You can try all the troubleshooting steps listed in the FAQ, and hopefully one of those suggestions will work for you.

Do you ever plan on supporting 8?

We do hope to support Windows 8 for our future titles. This can be checked under the system requirements in the store listing for each of our products.

Future titles? That's a little worrying? Does this mean there are no plans to patch existing titles for Windows 8? TWD is the only game I've got that has had any issues with the new OS?

That's a pretty poor response, the Walking Dead is not even technically complete as there is a 5th episode still due to be released. As of right now it's only Telltale games and The Walking Dead in particular that have issues on Windows 8 Pro 64Bit, I've installed loads of games from something fairly recent like Dishonored, Arkham City Game Of The Year, Doom 3 BFG Edition to something ancient like Half Life 2 (all bought through Steam), and every single one of the games I've installed work perfectly with no messing around.

With the Walking Dead, it's a constant battle, it either won't load with the Xbox pad or settings and save files disappear constantly, it's an unplayable mess. If it doesn't get fixed, then I'll probably give up and never bother TWD again..I've got Football Manager 2013 installed too, that'll keep me busy for the next 12 months!

"I found a fix to the problem. You need to unplug your gamepad or find and copy dinput8.dll into the game install directory. I went with the first option"

This was postet in the STEAM forum and worked for me.
Maybe it will help you too. I hope the poster will forgive me for the copy&paste of his post ;)

Guys, this is getting tiring, first the troubles with Ep 4, now this. I'm really getting fed up, I usually dislike people whining on forums but this really can't be called customer support anymore. Are you planing on reimbursing us? I mean I bought the game from you instead of Steam because I thought you were worth supporting, but I feel cheated by you
