Lost my saves again...

Walking Dead

My hard drive crashed and had to format it.
Started all over and all the downloads went smoothly, but once I quit the game and try to resume my game a day later, all my savegames were gone... Just like before. Tried the so called fix but that didn't work.

I'm really fed up with this... Haven't been able to play episode 3 yet.
Telltale, do something... Please.

Os-X version.

Your saves and prefs should be located in your Library\Application Support\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead folder. Please do a search for prefs.prop and see if there are any other copies of this file on your computer (there should not be). What's more than likely happening is a Gamedata folder is being created the second time you start the game, and a new prefs file is being created that is not linked to any saves, and the gmae is reading this file.

Yeah that's what I thought. So how do I stop the game from creating this new prefs file every time?

If the game cannot find the prefs file on launch, it will create another. This location is set by the game, so if you haven't moved the saves or prefs, it should always find them.

However, this can happen when the user playing the game is not the administrator account. If you initially were logged into a standard or guest account when installing or playing the game, this may be the problem. Please also check your account permissions and settings to make sure they are not limiting your access to these files.

There's just one account on this computer and I'm the only one using it, so that shouldn't be it. I don't know how the computer would restrict those files. The installation is from just a week ago...

Can you please check to verify that your account is the admin account?

Well, I'm using an administrator account and just to be sure, I've activated the root user setting. Until now, the saves are still there, but like I said, I've never had any different accounts on this computer.
I'm thinking of playing Walking Dead offline from now on, but will the game still work? Or do you HAVE to be connected to the internet when starting the game?

After you boot the game the first time, a log is created that stores your login information so you do not have to be online to play the game. If you ever delete your saves or reinstall the game, you will need to be online to hit our servers at least once before playing offline again.

Thanks for the help and information.
The savesgames are still there and I'm able to continue the game where I left off. Just to be sure though, I make a backup as soon as I quit the game, just so I know I have the right version of my saves and prefs.prop file.
