Sam and Max on Wii ... ennui

edited January 2008 in Sam & Max
I would love it if Telltale would make either a stand-alone release of Sam and Max Season 1 for the Nintendo Wii, or get together with Nintendo and release each episode individually as Wii-Ware games on Nintendo's network. These types of adventure titles is exactly what's missing from today's game systems, and needs to be addressed forthwith!

I agree, I would gladly re-buy all of the Sam & Max episodes for the Wii.

Just found this on the Adventure Gamers forum. Apparantly JoWooD is now planning to release Sam & Max on the Wii. Can someone from Telltale comment on this, please?
  • edited January 2008
Yes, i would be very interested in knowing more about this too. S&M on Wii is something i have been waiting for for a very long time! :D

I was just about to ask about this myself. Could someone please elaborate?

    S&M on Wii?

Will you release Sam&Max on Wii eventually. Point&Click would suit the machine really well. Would it then be discbased (whole seasons) or episodes downloadable on WiiWare?

Sam & Max would be great on the Wii, and we've cleared some of the technical hurdles while we were working on our recent CSI Wii title ("Hard Evidence"). I'm not going to promise anything, though, because we ALSO want to make NEW games, and there are a limited number of people working here....

I mean that sounds about right. Of course from a business standpoint it would make a lot of sense for telltale to hire a team to convert sam & max to the wii cause it would generate a boatload of money..

Dutch media has now picked up the Wii story as well. Tweakers.net reports that JoWood is bringing Sam & Max, and Agatha Christie to the Wii in this article: http://life.tweakers.net/nieuws/51285/jowood-brengt-sam-en-max-en-agatha-christie-naar-de-wii.html

Danish media is jumping on the bandwagon aswell: Wiinyt.dk

Now all we need is the official word from TT :) *crosses fingers*

Since everybody is posting links, here's one to a Kotaku post on the press release.

When has a company other than Telltale announced or confirmed a Sam & Max game project in the last two years? Please put away your jump to conclusion mats.

Yes, yes, but remember an official press release was sent out by the company that distributes Sam & Max Season 1 on disc for PC, specifically mentioning an 'upcoming project' in a pretty definitive statement: "JoWooD plant weitere seiner erfolgreichen Lizenzen aus dem Adventure Games für Nintendo® Wii™ zu adaptieren. Eines der nächsten Projekte: Sam & Max."

When that will happen is anybody's guess, but I really rather doubt JoWooD would take the risk of lying about something like this.

    I'm voting also! ^^
I would love to play quest games on my Wii!
but I think rereleasing the PC chapters will work meh...
I vote for a new 1-chapter game, like the first Sam and Max game! one long HUGE game for the wii, right after the release of the whole season 2.
you can't release a game for the wii that only wights around 600-700 MB... that's way too short.

But I agree, the wii-mote will be great as a point-n'-click quest game!
Release one long Sam and Max game for the Wii!
It may also bring the genre back, and a lot of other companies will make point-n'-click quest games for the Wii!

I think i'd take telltales word(who actually make the games) over JoWood who only publish/distribute them in europe

    Hi guys,

As Jake alluded to on the AG forum, we don't have anything official to announce right now. It's no secret that we want to bring Sam & Max to the Wii, and we're pursuing it, but it's not something we're ready to confirm just yet. (When we are, this site will be the place to look!)

It seems to me that the biggest problem with Sam & Max on the Wii is space.
I doubt that Telltale, as a relatively small games developer, has the resources to create a full-length Sam & Max game for Wii that you would go to buy in a store that isn't just a rerelease, but each individual episode is 600-700 MB in size, 3 times the Wii's storage capacity.
There are two obvious fixes to this; the first is to just release a season set on a disc, and the second is for Nintendo to provide support for an external HDD.
Personally, if it's just a rerelease of games that I already have on the PC, I won't bother. As much as I enjoy the novelty, I don't have the money to justify spending it on a game I own. However, if it were possible to adopt the same episodic schedule of release as the PC version, I'd bite simply because this PC sucks and it takes forever to load a single area and it would probably make for an all-around more fluid experience on a stable platform. This is obviously just wishful thinking, as I doubt Nintendo would allow such a thing to happen. Ah well. Such is life.

So... you're porting S&M to the Wii (or at least working towards that)

You Sam & Max fans sure are good puzzle solvers. :D

Well, it should be easy to port.
All you need is point moving device and 2 buttons, yep, check.

I just hope that if Sam & Max get to Wii, (pun intended)
that a good widescreen option and 720p will be available. And that nothing is left out or cut in any way.

truth be told, i haven't actually played any of S1 or S2 S&M games due to lack of a PC. and the only PC emulator things that will run the games seem to require intell which i also don't have (v.v) i do have a wii though, so even if they just ported the games it would make me very happy.

Widescreen won't be an problem, but the Nintendo Wii has a maximun output of 480p, with the use of component cables.

Seems to me that Max's quote DOES confirm it.

Eh? I think they're about a third of that, actually, or half at most. Anyway, this shouldn't be a problem, since I'm pretty sure they'll release it on disc. And if not, we might see an external hard drive, if only because of this.

I could very well be wrong about that. I'm too lazy to double check, but I wouldn't be surprised if you were right and I just had that figure stuck in my head for some reason.
Even so, 200-300 MB is more/just barely less than the Wii's internal flash memory.
Also, it is almost certain that they'll release a hard drive, but technically speaking there's no confirmation.

Was wondering if we will ever see an NDS version... Like the one studio that is redoing Runaway.

But on the other side, if TellTale doesn't do it I don't have to buy the game 3 times (PC, Wii and NDS) and save money in the procees :D
  • edited January 2008
201 is 353MB, and 202 is 630MB... that's nearly double the first one!
