TWD: Episode 5 and all progress lost!

So episode 5 is finally here! And I couldn't wait to play. But, I had to start al over again! Why telltale? Is it that difficult? This is the second time that this happened to me! Somebody got a solution for this problem? Because this is becoming very very very annoying.:mad:

    I moved this to game support.
    Do you play on PC or Mac?

    Having the exact same issue. Saved game containing the progress up to now is gone. First it told me I didn't have a license for it. Then when it started recognising my account, I had to re-download the old episodes too. Downloaded them, no saved games!!! So frustrating!!!

    PC player here.

    There's a chance you can use the "restore previous version" feature (right click, "properties", "restore previous version") on the savegame folder:
    %USERPROFILE%\Documents\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead

    Be aware that the TTG store version also downloads episodes into that folder, so you might have to reinstall the episodes you didn't have at the previous folder version.

    Nope didn't work because there is no "previous version".

    That's unfortunate.
    Did the game crash at some point before you lost your savegames?
    What is the approximate size of the prefs.prop file in your savegame folder, and are the .save files still there?

    Mine actually seems to have changed the location that it's saving the files in, from C:\Users\<user>\Documents\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead
    to:
    C:\Users\<user>\Documents\Telltale Games\GameData

    [edit]
    Copyin the prefs.prop from one location to the other results on the game hanging on the title screen after "click here"

    I don't know how to properly restore the savegames in that case.

    First i would make backups of both folders just to be sure.

    Did you ever change anything in the registry for the walking dead?

    Are you running the game on the same windows user account you installed it from?

    Not that I can recall (Though I did follow a guide on here for getting Episode 4 up and running as I'd problems then too)

    Yup, only ever use one account.

    There's a registry value that defines where the savegames should be. Let's check that.

    Please open a command line (by typing cmd in the start menu) and enter:

    reg QUERY "HKCU\Software\Telltale Games\WalkingDead101.exe" /v SaveGameFolderName

    Then please post the result.

    I'm having the same problem, except I play on a Mac via Steam.

    Ok... so I did the following:

    * Backed up both directories that seemed to have the game info
    * Uninstalled the game
    * Deleted the existing folders (leaving the zipped backups)
    * Performed a fresh install
    * Ran the game
    * Got told I my account didn't have a license
    * Closed down the game, checked, found the data in the The Walking Dead folder again instead of GameData
    * Restored old prefs.prof file
    * Launched game, checked saves, found data there for Episode 4
    * Quit
    * Restored downloaded game files for each episode from the backup
    * Game started freezing again after "Connecting..."
    * Deleted the restored game files for each episode
    * Game started successfully again.
    * Options to "Get" Eps 2-4, Ep 5 "Coming Soon" >_<

    Couple of restarts later, Ep 5 shows as available, progress restored.

    Great success!
