Can you share game saves?

Like many I have downloaded the latest episode and my saves have been deleted. I'm wondering if you can share save files with the Steam version. Can I took the prefs.prob and save file from my friend's computer and put it on mine? Will this work? And more importantly, is it allowed or will I get banned from Steam? If anyone knows, specifically someone from Telltale, it would help me a lot! Thanks.
edit: I have looked at the different solutions and it seems that my saves can't be recovered. I have nothing in steamapps or documents.
