Another thread about saved games

After downloading episode 5, the game doesn't recognize my saved games. I don't use the steam version, so copying over prefs.prop fix doesn't work for me. ALL my saved games still exist in my documents/TellTale folder. Any ideas?

I have the Steam version. Even the prefs.prop solution isn't even working anymore, it's saying I'm on episode 2 and is giving me random decisions for episode 5.

You'd think this would get fixed and I wouldn't have to deal with this shit. But nope. Now I can't even play the fucking game like I want to. I have to get some random story that has NOTHING to do with mine.

    Thanks for nothing.

Guess I'll just forget this game existed.

Refund our money or fix the game.

I'm tired of waiting around and trying to FIX MY OWN GAME while you sit around and do nothing.

NONE of the fixes posted by anyone are working. I've tried 7 different things TODAY ALONE. IT'S BEEN 2 MOTHER F***ING MONTHS and you STILL haven't even said more than "Try these others, leave me alone we're accepting awards"

I want my money back from your sorry ass excuse for customer service.

What platform do you have the walking dead on?

It works fine for me and every person I've talked with, are you sure their isn't something wrong with whatever console you're using?

Telltale is aware of the problem, it's just hard to pin down since computers have many different configurations and it only happens to a small percentage of people.

Some people have had success fixing the problem by trying the suggestions in this thread.

It's well and good that they're aware of the problem, but the bigger question is what they're going to do about it. It might be more bearable if they were at least better at communicating with us. As it stands, I'm sitting here having lost my progress after Episode 2. No posted fixes have worked, and there's no sign from the ones who made the game that they even care. I hope that anyone can understand why that's incredibly frustrating.

That's completely understandable, but they aren't giving any response that they are actually looking into it. It would be okay if they came up with some sort of game save generator - I just really don't want to have to replay 15 hours of the game in order to get my decisions back. The proposed fixes aren't working for me so...yeah. No matter what the situation, communication is a must.

The save game generator is likely too complex to be practical considering the amount of different choices in the game (plus it would be really cumbersome for the user - it would require a gigantic amount of checkboxes to choose from in order to include all the choices).

So unfortunately, the workarounds are the best solution right now. There's another workaround to try: this one has worked for some people.

If none of the workarounds work, there might be another issue at play. Unfortunately, there might be a possibility that your save was overwritten (for example by playing episode 2 when the save said that you were on that episode). In this case, your save might have been over written with new data. If that happened, there's nothing that can be done to restore the original data since it's no longer there.

If nothing is working for you, my best advice is to start the game over from episode 2 (or from the beginning), and back up your saves after each chapter just in case it happens again.

So I was able to fix my issue from today. At least I think. I found a fix mentioned for the 360 which is to copy your save to another slot then load up the existing save but start from where you finished off. In this case my save shows Episode 1 and I was on Episode 4.

I did that and I think It's fixed. The choices appear to line up but the nature of Episode 4 makes it difficult. The small variables line up. Clem not wearing a hoodie, what I did with Lily, etc.

So we'll see how it works tomorrow when I load up Ep5.

This doesnt take away what I posted in that other thread. How Telltale has handled this issue is pathetic and shows how poor their customer service is.

edit: As for a save generator. There's nothing about this game that wouldn't make that possible. They have one for Mass Effect and that game has just as many if not more variables and choices. But that was created by a customer. I don't expect an official one to be released by Telltale though.

I gave up after playing through most of the first episode twice and the savegames losing all of my information both times. Two different computers now.

I'm just going to wait till they have a disk release (I'm assuming we can get a disk copy for the cost of shipping like we have when we purchased full seasons in the past). I would think that the disk copy would be more stable, and would do away with all the save issues that seem to be conflicts between the different downloadable episodes.

I agree that the communication could have been handled much more professionally than it has. The key is to stay in contact with the community and give updates on how the fixes are progressing, even if they're hitting roadblocks and it could be a while.

I also had this issue today; I was half way though EP 4, when I went to go play it had me all the way back at the beginning of EP 2. I bought it off Steam and steam has tracked me playing 13 ish hours into the game now...
Im VERY disappointed to see this especially in an episodic game like this. Also working for a retailer that specializes in games, I was recommending this to a ton of people but now am hesitant to due to this issue.

I have tried the "work arounds" that have been posted and none of them have worked. As a result of these "work arounds" that have been recommended by the moderator on here, I now cant seem to have ANY save load up and now have to restart the entire game from the start.

Again Im especially disappointed in this as I was raving about this game and thought it was FANTASTIC up until this issue.
I hope a fix comes ASAP as this is an unacceptable issue to be ignored, more so since it looks like this has been an issue that isnt new and has been happening with each new episode.
