Episode 2 Won't Load

Just as the title says, I finished episode 1, go to load up episode 2, says loading, then goes to a dark screen that has my cursor, and indicator that I have an axe.

Before that, I tried to start it up, and one of the choices I made from episode 1 didn't carry over (I heard that replaying the last chapter will fix that? I sure hope so). This is a real pain, as I absolutly loved episode 1!

Does it work if you start an episode 2 game with randomized choices in a new save slot?
  • edited November 2012
    It doesn't.

Is it the Steam or the TTG store version?
  • edited November 2012
I got it from Steam yesterday.

    Does Episode 1 still work?
Have you tried setting all graphics settings to the lowest value?
  • edited November 2012
Yeah, I started a new game on Episode 1 just to see if it worked...it does.

And I have set all the settings to low. Still no luck.I even tried lowering the resolution.

If i understand your initial post correctly, episode 2 started once, but had the wrong choices?
  • edited November 2012
Correct. And for some reason, it isn't starting anymore.

I even tried uninstalling the game prior to posting here.

I think this might be a problem with the savegame data.

Please check if there is a file called prefs.prop in the install folder of TWD
    ( something like \Steam\SteamApps\common\the walking dead )
    or any of its subfolders.
  • edited November 2012
prefs.prop shows up in The Walking Dead/Pack/default.

    Okay, that shouldn't be there.

Please move that prefs.prop to your desktop (we might need it later).

Then try if episode 2 works.

    Huh, weird.

It wouldn't load my save game, but it DID allow me to start up a new game in episode 2.

That's a good start. You might be able to load your savegame, if you copy the prefs.prop from the steam folder into the savegame folder.

To be safe, make a backup copy of the savegame folder prefs.prop first.

So, before you replied I decided to play the last chapter of episode 1 and see if that would work...and it looks like it did! And all my choices carried over by the look of it. Thanks for your help!

The prefs.prop file I moved to my desktop, should I do anything with that?

You probably won't need it anymore if it works now. It doesn't hurt to keep it for a few days just in case.

I am having the same problem, but none of this tips helped me yet. Here's my story:

I had played the ep 1 normally and ep 2, too.
When I started the ep 3, I noticed that my decision of siding with Lilly in ep 2 (when Kenny killed Larry) was changed and everyone was commenting that I helped Kenny (it is not true)
To change this situation, I tried to play that chapter again and at this point the problem of the black screen with the cursor and the axe started

    What could it be?
  • edited November 2012
    Oh I forgot!

I also tried to start the game again and, after finishing the first ep, I tried to play the second but the problem happened again

Which of the things i suggested in this thread have you tried already?
  • edited November 2012
I tried to reinstall the game; tried to del my save and start again; tried to play in different resolutions and levels of quality; tried to copy the prefs.prop archive to my desktop; verified my game cache files; tried to start ep 2 with random choices.

At the first time, I played ep 2 normally, with the choices that I made in ep 1. When finished the ep 2, I started ep 3 but the choices were different (I chose to help Lilly but the game changed my decision as I helped killing Larry). After trying to rewind that decision, the problem started and I could not play the ep 2 again, but I can play the ep 1 normally.

If you just copied it, it will still be there. The key is to remove them from the Steam folders.

i tried the same things and none of that worked for me either my episodes still wont load
  • edited November 2012
The game worked now! But, what is the deal with that archive? Why must we remove it from the folders in order to play?
