TWD: Stuttering/framerate issue (PSN version)
Hey all,
I bought the season pass on the PSN way back when Episode 1 came out. I played Ep. 1 right away, but have waited until now to jump back into the game and play the remaining chapters.
When I played through Episode 1, I recall having some noticeable stuttering and framerate drops during conversations or cutscenes. It didn't bother me enough to look into fixing it since I finished the episode in a couple of sittings, and figured maybe it would be patched or otherwise fixed with the subsequent chapters.
But last night, playing Episode 2, the stuttering and framerate issues were still there, and significantly worse than I remember in the first chapter. If I wasn't actually in control of Lee, walking around, the graphics and dialogue would skip every 5-10 seconds, sometimes even resulting in the subtitles not matching up with the dialogue, or snippets of dialogue being replayed for a split second at the end of a character's lines.
I searched around other boards a bit, and saw some people posting the same problem elsewhere, but couldn't find a definitive answer or solution. My PS3 is just under a year old, and the hard drive is nowhere near full. I don't even use the console very often, as most of my gaming lately has been on my PC.
Anyone have any idea if this can be fixed somehow, or if a lot of other people are experiencing the same issue?

While there may be moments in the game where the framerate dips, we never saw an issue like you've described on PS3.
My problems are:
* Stuttering when you don't have control over player (i.e. about 1 second screen-locks, sometimes longer and subtitles are sometimes delayed).
* The above statement may not be holy true, because sometimes you feel you get a delay between choices and video, and therefore stuttering appears when you play.
* I have a feeling of not having full sound sometimes (i.e. under a action-sequence, some of the sounds felt they just disappeared, like if you pulled out a cable from some of your speakers on your surround system).
I've played through Episode 1, but it was a long time ago and I don't remember how it behaved then. Played through Episode 2 today, with the problems stated above. I will not continue playing until these problems are resolved.
A worth of note, when I'm in the start-screen of the PS3, my amplifier indicates stereo-output, which is normal. When starting a game, normally my amplifiers indicator for sound-output flickers a bit, and sets to surround-output (telling me that the game gives surround-sound). When starting the game 'The Walking Dead', the indicator flickers a bit, but stays on stereo-output.
What little I could find on this through some googling, I saw some people theorize that it might be a hard drive issue.
My PS3 is less than a year old, and relatively unused. In the last 11 months, it's been used primarily for Blu-Rays, Netflix, and most definitely less than 100 hours of gaming in total. The HDD is fairly empty as well. I have not customized the PS3 in any way, other than occasionally switching between the dashboard themes that came with Walking Dead and the Ico/Shadow of the Colossus HD collection.
I tried deleting all of the game content from my machine last night, and re-downloaded and installed all 5 episodes over again. When I have a chance to play some more, if this has fixed the issue, I will report back. Otherwise, I will try disabling the Ico theme that I'm currently using and see if that helps. Would that really be an issue, or am I misunderstanding your suggestion about custom themes?
In regards to sound, depending on how your PS3 and Receiver are configured, this may be the issue. To answer the above question, the Walking Dead does nout output in 5.1 or 7.1(2). It is a stereo only title. If your system is attempting to force stereo sound, it could be affecting the game. Try connecting directly to your tv, using its stereo speakers, and see if the problem goes away.
