Assistance Please!

After reading the other posts on this forum, I am still lost. I am not a young person anymore, but I got through "Hit the Road" just fine. I cannot get anywhere with this (Season 1, Episode 1). I have put all I can find into inventory. But when I read these posts, there is talk about a birthday cake and the donut box. Huh??? Am I not combining things properly? I am at a loss and would like to at least get started at this point. Any help will be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks!

    Combining items is NOT possible in TellTale's S&M games (at least, not up to episode 2 from season 2 :))

    In which part are you stuck?

    To get STARTED you don't need either a birthday cake or a donut box, that much further into the game.

    Where are you stuck and what are you trying to do?

    Oh, I think he is thinking of when we get to see inside Sam's grotesque non-sensical dreams and change what's in the donut box, according to his obsession!

    Right, but those are items in the environment that you can look at, not items you can ever pick up and put in your inventory.

    i'll say this there is only 2 things in the office you can pick up
    the bowling ball and boxing glove
