[TWD] Serious Mac Bugs

Hi!
I've been playing Episode 1, but I'm afraid its become completely unplayable. The first time I played it through none of my choices saved. Pretty annoying, so I went to play it through again and this time I can't access Episode 2. I played Episode 1 all the way to the end (watched the credits and everything) I get the trailer for Episode 2 but when I go to play the game all I get is a black screen, with my cursor and a picture of an axe in the inventory bar. Oh and daft music.
I'm playing on a Mac OSX, through Steam. I've verified the integrity of the game cache and all that, I've even gone back halfway through episode 1 to replay it to see if that worked but nothing helps. I'm not a total tecchie programmer so I'm afraid I havent tried anything too technical.
It looks like it would be a really enjoyable game, but these bugs are seriously annoying and frustrating. Feels a bit like I've wasted my money.
Any advice for how to fix this issue gratefully received.

Thanks.

We are aware of this issue and currently investigating the cause. If you can provide some more information, that will greatly help us reproduce, and then fix this issue.

Can you please provide me with your Mac system specifications? To do this, select the Apple logo on the top toolbar of your desktop, then select 'About this Mac', and then 'More info...'. Now Select 'File' on the top toolbar of your desktop, then find 'Save As'. Choose a filename to easily find the document after saving, and most importantly change the file format to an easy to read document type (RTF is recommended). After you save the file, find and open it. Now press Cmd+A to select all text, and Cmd+C to copy and Cmd+V to paste the contents of this file into a reply to this email. Please note that I only need the first 2 pages that include your processor, ram, and video card specifications.

You mentioned that you played Episode 1, but your choices weren't saved. Can you clarify how you know this? After completing Episode 1, did you start Episode 2 and see the wrong choices during Previously On, or was it something else?

If you started Episode 2 to find out your choices didn't save, did you then return to the menu and restart Episode 1? Did you exit the game before restarting? Did you delete the save and start Episode 1 fresh or rewind to the beginning of your save? Did you start Episode 1 on a new slot?

This is all relevant information that will help our testers while they attempt to reproduce this issue. Please be as specific as you can about what you did before you encountered this issue. Thank you.

Hope this isn't thread hijacking, but I am having similar Mac TWD issues, so might as well give you what I can. Note that this is a Steam install of the full game.

    My issues:

    1. The mouse (trackpad, really) is incredibly unresponsive. It is very jerky, to the point of rendering the quick reaction bits nearly unplayable on first try, since you can't smoothly locate the hot spot. Keyboard input is totally fine. This situation is true in both Ep 1 and Ep 2.

    2. My decisions from Ep 1 did not transfer to Ep 2, or at least the Carley/Doug choice didn't. I definitely saved Carley in Ep 1, which was reflected in the end statistics (I know that most players saved Carley), but Doug is in Ep 2. I'm not sure about other decisions, but that one really leapt out.

I also have to say, this is a tough game to troubleshoot for the end-user, since searching for common solutions too easily reveals spoilers. Some kind of self-support wiki with concealed spoilers would be really great for this type of game.

    Thanks!

The reason your trackpad may feel unresponsive could be that your video card is under-spec and integrated. We do not recommend integrated chipsets as they tend to underperform and have various issues running our games. Also, your video RAM is lower than our minimum specifications.

The issue with Carley not carrying over could be a problem with multiple prefs.prop files. Please search your computer for prefs.prop, and if you find any duplicate files, please remove these from your computer. The most likely place these would be located in in a Gamedata folder adjacent to your Walking Dead save folder, or in your Steam install directory for the Walking Dead (steamapps\common\the walking dead). Sometimes this duplicate prefs file can hold your current choices, so you may want to back up additional file you find, and if the problem persists, replace the prefs in your save directory with the back-up. Your save directory is Library\Application Support\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead.

Hmmm. Regarding the mouse, that seems odd, since the graphics are incredibly smooth. It's JUST the cursor motion which is jerky.

On to the more frustrating issue--I found prefs.prop in both the save folder and inside the application resources ("~/Library/Application\ Support/Steam/SteamApps/common/The\ Walking\ Dead/TheWalkingDead.app/Contents/Resources/Pack/default"). Deleting the prefs.prop from inside the application folder and then restarting Ep 2 does NOT keep Carley alive. Do I need to replay the end of Ep 1 to make this happen?

    Thanks for the help!

If you replay the scene where you choose Carley over Doug, and then finish the episode, you should be able to launch Episode 2 with your choices carrying over.

I'm having this same issue. I tried doing the above and deleted prefs.prop from the application folder, then started up the game, chose Ep 1, then Rewind to Doug or Carly, and now it just loads to a black screen. I tried it the other way around too, keeping the prefs.prop in the saves folder and deleting from the application folder. Same thing happened.

This all came up because I'm experiencing the OP's issue verbatim. Played through chapter 1, went to chapter 2, and suddenly Doug is alive instead of Carly.

Hi Matt apologies for the delayed response I've been away.

I'm afraid when I follow the instructions "'About this Mac', and then 'More info...'. Now Select 'File' on the top toolbar of your desktop, then find 'Save As'" I don't get the option 'Save As'. Sorry for being daft here if I'm doing it wrong. The specifications that come up when I go to more info are:

    Processor: 2.4Ghz Intel Core i7
    Memory: 8GB 1333 MHz DDR3
    Graphics: AMD Radeon HD6770M 1024MB
    Software: Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63b)

There is a serial number too, but not sure if that's relevant.

As to how I know the choices were not saved in Episode 2, I tried to play it first time round. Doug survived instead of Carly, and Kenny seems pissed off that I didn't support him (although I did). I had a short play of Episode 2, but then thought that I wanted my choices to count so I restarted the game on a new slot. That's when the issue with the black screen happened.

Hope some of this is helpful, it does look a really good game, I do hope to get the opportunity to experience it.
