Unable to connect after completing Episode 1, subsequent save game issue?

Hi,

I am playing TWD on Steam for the first time. I have completed the first episode, however after the credits have rolled, it goes back to the initial screen with 'connecting', however, it never connects. Cancelling out of the program allows you to reconnect, and using the old save game, recognises that Episode 1 has been completed, and puts me onto the Episode 2 screen. However, clicking play here asks me if I would like to use random choices, clearly , it hasn't picked up my Episode 1 decisions.

Things I have tried:

Going back to the Episode 1 screen, and clicking on Continue, this takes me to the Episode 2 screen where the same problem occurs.

Rewinding Episode 1, and playing through the last section again. This results in the same connection issue as described before.

Veryifying the Game Cache via Steam.

The 'prefs.prop' fix as described on the main page's FAQ (moving that file from the steamapps to the save game folder in my documents). Does nothing, same issue persists.

Does anyone have any solutions to this problem? If you need any more information, please let me know.

I am having this exact same problem and have also tried all of these fixes. After at least 7 or 8 different attempts at various fixes, I did get it to connect after doing a rewind, but this still did not fix the issue for me.

I've been scouring internet and trying to fix this for at least 2 and a half hours....

Thanks for the info, now I don't have to attempt to do that myself, would take a lot of time.

The prefs file that governs your saves may have been duplicated into another directory. First, please check your Documents\Telltale Games directory. If you have a Gamedata folder in there, please delete it. Your saves and prefs will be in the Walking Dead folder, so please do not touch these. Now go to the directory where you installed Steam and select steamapps\common\the walking dead. In this folder you may find a prefs file. Please delete this. Also check your Pack folder and then each episode folder (WalkingDead102, WalkingDead103, etc...) to make sure there is no prefs.prop file in there.

Now restart Steam, and then launch the game and check to see if your choices carry over. Please note that the duplicated prefs file may have been governing your choices since it's creation, so to be safe, you can back-up this file, and if the above process doesn't work, you can move that prefs file into your save directory (overwriting the existing one).

Hi, I followed these instructions to the letter, however I am still having the exact same problem as described in my first post.

Unfortunately that fix doesn't work for me either.

Just an idea, could it be the fact that the game is installed on a different hard drive than the main OS? I mean, it shouldn't be a problem, but then again, this issue shouldn't be so prevalent in a piece of software where save game transferring is incredibly vital to the experience.
