The Walking Dead saves deleted!

I had just finished episode 3 before I logged off the last time I played TWD, when I logged on today (steam version) it had oddly continued me right at the end of episode 3 again. After I took a few minutes to complete the episode again, the client crashed and i got an error message. When I logged back on all my saves were gone and it promted me to start a new game. I dont have the time to go back and log another 12 hours getting to this point again with all my decisions and I dont want to continue my game with a randomly generated situation. Does anybody know a solution to this problem or if a patch is coming in the future? I would love to finish this awesome game series with as high an opinion of it as when I started.

Is there a way to save our saves somewhere else on our computer so that they're not lost if this happens? (or like in my case, where our game is no longer working so that we can re-install it and then play it again from the point we left off?)

I'm very disappointed, all I wanted to do is play this supposed GOTY. I bought it early on when the first Ep. was released just so I could experience it as they came out and I've been punished for doing so. My saves have deleted several times and any enjoyment I got out of this game is now gone. How could they break something as simple as save game files. This is a game breaking error and months after the release it still isn't fixed.
